OHIO FIREFIGHTER ACCUSED OF HANDCUFFING HER BOYFRIEND HAS MOST CHARGES DISMISSED
An Ohio firefighter and emergency medical technician has had most of the criminal charges against her dismissed after a disturbing incident involving her boyfriend, a captain with the same fire department. Kenasia Guilford, 33, was accused of handcuffing the man to a railing at her home and refusing to let him leave. On October 20, 2026, a judge found her guilty of misdemeanor aggravated trespassing after she entered a no-contest plea to the reduced charge.

According to police reports, the incident began on September 22, when Guilford invited her boyfriend to her home. Investigators said she handcuffed him to a railing with his initial permission but later allegedly refused to release him. The man eventually managed to escape and sought help from a friend around 4 a.m. According to a 911 call, he told his friend he had to struggle and “gnaw” his way free.
The situation reportedly continued after the man escaped. His friend told emergency dispatchers that he picked him up and helped him return home. The friend then allegedly saw Guilford approaching the man’s residence in the dark. Police said Guilford had entered the home, where officers later found her inside a bedroom. Investigators also accused her of taking the man’s vehicle, house key and phone.
Guilford was initially charged with abduction, burglary and two counts of theft. However, prosecutors dismissed the abduction and theft charges, while the burglary charge was amended to misdemeanor aggravated trespassing. Her attorney previously suggested the events arose from a personal relationship dispute involving information that had caused his client significant distress, but he did not publicly explain the details.
The latest ruling marks a major change in the case, with Guilford now convicted of the lesser misdemeanor offense rather than facing the original collection of charges. She is scheduled to return to court on December 2 for sentencing. The case has attracted attention because both individuals reportedly worked for the Toledo Fire and Rescue Department.
