Texas Man Accused of Throwing Urn Containing Recently Deceased Child’s Remains Into Burning Fire Pit During Argument

A Texas man is facing criminal charges after allegedly assaulting a woman during an argument and throwing an urn containing the remains of a recently deceased child into a burning fire pit, destroying both the urn and its contents, according to police.

Jose Francisco DeJesus, 24, was arrested in San Antonio on October 19 in connection with the disturbing incident. He faces charges including assault causing bodily injury to a family member and abuse of a corpse, court records show.

Authorities say the urn belonged to a relative of the woman involved in the dispute. The child’s identity and the precise relationship between the child and the woman have not been publicly disclosed.

Police Respond to Domestic Disturbance

Officers with the San Antonio Police Department were dispatched to a home in the 300 block of Langford Place on October 19 after receiving a report of a disturbance, according to Law&Crime and local news station KSAT.

When officers arrived, they spoke with a 29-year-old woman who reportedly said that an argument with DeJesus had turned physical.

The woman told police that DeJesus had pushed her several times during the confrontation. Officers reportedly observed visible injuries, which became part of the investigation into the alleged assault.

What investigators learned next added another disturbing element to the incident: during the same confrontation, DeJesus allegedly took an urn containing the remains of a child who had recently died and threw it into a burning fire pit.

Urn Containing Child’s Remains Allegedly Destroyed

According to information reported by KSAT, police said DeJesus grabbed the urn containing the child’s remains and placed it in the fire pit, destroying the urn and the ashes inside.

Investigators determined that the remains belonged to a deceased child who was a relative of the woman involved in the dispute.

Authorities said the family member had not given DeJesus permission to destroy the remains.

The reported act has become a central part of the case because the urn held the remains of a child whose death had already brought loss to the family. The alleged destruction occurred during an argument that police were also investigating as a physical assault.

Officials have not publicly identified the child or disclosed further details about the circumstances of the child’s death.

The allegations remain part of an ongoing criminal case, and DeJesus has not been convicted of the charges stemming from this incident.

Suspect Arrested and Released on Bond

DeJesus was booked into the Bexar County Jail following his arrest. Court records cited by Law&Crime show that he was released after posting a $25,000 bond.

He is scheduled to appear before County Judge Melanie M. Lira for an arraignment on November 12.

The charges include assault causing bodily injury to a family member and abuse of a corpse. The case will proceed through the court system, where prosecutors will need to establish the allegations against him.

The bond amount and scheduled court appearance mark the latest developments in the case. His release pending further proceedings does not determine the outcome of the charges.

Court Records Show Previous Criminal Cases

Court records also indicate that DeJesus has faced criminal proceedings in the past.

According to Law&Crime, he was involved in an aggravated robbery case in 2024 that resulted in deferred adjudication. He was also charged with assault causing bodily injury to a family member in 2025, but that charge was later dismissed.

Those earlier cases are separate from the allegations arising from the October incident. A dismissed charge does not establish guilt, and the current accusations must be considered through the legal process.

Authorities have not announced a conviction in connection with the alleged assault and destruction of the urn.

Investigation Continues After Disturbing Allegations

The case brings together two serious allegations: physical violence against a woman and the intentional destruction of an urn containing a deceased child’s remains.

According to police, the investigation began with a reported domestic disturbance and expanded after officers learned what had allegedly happened to the urn.

The child’s identity remains private, and authorities have not released further details about the family’s circumstances. For the relatives, the reported destruction of the remains may represent an additional source of distress following the child’s death.

As the case moves toward its next court appearance, the allegations against DeJesus will be addressed through the judicial process. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
