Machete-Wielding Man Jailed for 18 Years After Woman Dies Fleeing His Threats
Jaiden Hassan-Agard was sentenced to 18 years in prison after threatening two women with machetes and assaulting Tia Langdon, 25, who died after falling from a third-floor balcony while trying to escape.

Woman Dies After Desperate Escape Attempt
A 25-year-old woman died after falling from a third-floor balcony in Southampton, England, while attempting to escape a terrifying ordeal involving a man armed with two machetes.
Tia Langdon suffered fatal injuries during the incident on August 28, 2025, at a flat on Cuckmere Lane. She died in the hospital the following day.
Jaiden Hassan-Agard, who was 18 at the time and is now 20, was sentenced at Winchester Crown Court on October 23, 2026, after being convicted of manslaughter and several other serious offenses.
Threats and Violence Inside the Apartment
The court heard that Hassan-Agard became enraged after accusing Langdon and another woman, Shannon McNeil, of stealing drugs from him.

Prosecutors said he was carrying two machetes and threatened both women with violence. He allegedly spoke about torture methods, including waterboarding, and punched Langdon in the face, breaking her nose.
The women were prevented from leaving the apartment, leaving them frightened and trapped. Prosecutors described Langdon as being in an extremely distressed state as she repeatedly moved toward the balcony while trying to find a way out.
At one point, Hassan-Agard also threatened McNeil’s dog, adding to the fear inside the apartment.
Fatal Fall From the Third Floor
As the threats continued, Langdon attempted to escape through the balcony rather than the apartment’s ordinary exit.
No witness saw the precise moment she went over the balcony. However, prosecutors argued that the prolonged threats and violence had left her feeling she had no safe way to leave.
Langdon fell approximately 35 feet to the ground below and suffered injuries she could not survive.
During sentencing, the judge told Hassan-Agard that he had terrorized Langdon so severely that she believed she had no other option but to try to escape over the balcony. The judge also noted that he made no attempt to help her after the fall.
Second Woman Also Threatened
Hassan-Agard was also convicted of offenses involving McNeil, including kidnapping, false imprisonment, threats to kill and threatening her with an offensive weapon.
After Langdon fell, the court heard, Hassan-Agard continued threatening McNeil and instructed her to leave with him. He subsequently left the scene without seeking emergency assistance for Langdon.
McNeil later returned home and contacted police, helping investigators piece together the events that led to Langdon’s death.
Prosecutors said Hassan-Agard’s conduct was a significant cause of the events that ended in Langdon’s fatal fall, even though no one witnessed the exact moment she fell.
18-Year Prison Sentence
On October 23, 2026, Hassan-Agard received an 18-year custodial sentence, followed by an extended three-year period on licence.
His convictions included manslaughter, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, two counts of false imprisonment, two counts of making threats to kill, two counts of threatening someone with an offensive weapon in a private place, and kidnapping.
The court also heard about his previous convictions for violent offenses. The judge said he posed a significant risk of serious harm to the public.
Family Pays Tribute to Tia
Following sentencing, Langdon’s family described her as a much-loved daughter, family member and friend whose life had been taken far too soon.
They said the sentence could not bring her back or remove the pain of losing her, but expressed gratitude that Hassan-Agard had been held accountable.
The case has highlighted the devastating consequences of threats, intimidation and violence against people who feel trapped and unable to escape.
Tia Langdon’s family continues to grieve her loss, while the sentence brings the criminal proceedings against Hassan-Agard to a significant milestone.
