The disappearance of Dee Warner, a 52-year-old mother of five and businesswoman, became a yearslong investigation that ended with a disturbing discovery on her family’s farm in southeastern Michigan.
Dee vanished on April 25, 2021. For more than three years, her family had no definitive answers about what happened to her. In August 2024, investigators discovered her remains inside a sealed agricultural tank on the property she shared with her husband, Dale Warner.
In March 2026, a jury found Dale guilty of second-degree murder and tampering with evidence. He was sentenced in May to consecutive prison terms totaling up to 70 years.
A Disappearance That Left Her Family Searching for Answers
Dee and Dale Warner married in 2006 after meeting through their agricultural businesses. Together, they raised their daughter alongside eight children from previous relationships and operated several businesses involving farming, trucking and agricultural services.
According to family members, Dee was known for her strong personality and willingness to help others.
On the morning she disappeared, Dale told investigators he had last seen his wife around 6 a.m. before leaving to work on the farm. He claimed she had gone missing after an argument the previous evening and said it was not unusual for her to leave when upset.
However, Dee’s family became increasingly concerned when she failed to respond to calls and messages. Her wedding ring was reportedly left behind on Dale’s desk.
Authorities searched the property and surrounding areas, but early efforts failed to uncover evidence that explained her disappearance.
Investigators Focused on the Farm
As the investigation continued, authorities examined the couple’s property, which covered approximately 1,500 acres.
Investigators reportedly discovered that Dale had searched online for information about burying a large propane tank after Dee disappeared. Family members also raised questions about unusual heavy-equipment tracks on the property.
The Michigan State Police took over the investigation in August 2022. Although Dee’s body had not been found, investigators continued gathering evidence and eventually arrested Dale in November 2023 on murder and evidence-tampering charges.
He pleaded not guilty.
Remains Found Inside a Sealed Tank
A major breakthrough came on August 16, 2024, when investigators discovered human remains inside a sealed agricultural tank on the Warner property.
The tank had reportedly been freshly painted and marked with warnings indicating it should not be used. An X-ray examination revealed the remains inside.
Investigators later identified the remains as Dee’s through dental records.
An autopsy determined that she had suffered strangulation and blunt-force trauma to the head.
The discovery provided the first definitive confirmation of what had happened to Dee after years of uncertainty for her loved ones.
Prosecutors Argued Financial and Marital Conflict Played a Role
During Dale’s trial, prosecutors argued that he killed Dee amid growing marital and financial tensions.
They alleged that Dee was preparing to leave the marriage and planned to sell their businesses. Prosecutors contended that the prospect of divorce and the potential financial consequences provided a motive for the killing.
The defense challenged the prosecution’s case, arguing that the evidence was circumstantial and did not directly establish that Dale had killed his wife. His attorney maintained that he had cooperated with investigators and denied harming Dee.
After considering the evidence, jurors found Dale guilty of second-degree murder and tampering with evidence on March 10, 2026.
Dale Warner Sentenced to Up to 70 Years
On May 7, 2026, Dale received consecutive prison sentences totaling up to 70 years.
The sentence included 31 to 60 years for second-degree murder and 17 months to 10 years for evidence tampering. Based on the minimum terms, he will be eligible for parole when he is approximately 91 years old.
Dale has maintained his innocence, and his attorney indicated that an appeal would be pursued.
For Dee’s family, the conviction brought a measure of accountability after years of uncertainty, although it could not undo the loss.
Her Family Wants Her Remembered for Her Life
Throughout the investigation, Dee’s relatives continued pressing for answers and keeping public attention on her disappearance.
Her daughter, Rikkell Bock, has emphasized that her mother’s life should not be defined solely by the circumstances of her death. She remembered Dee as a strong, caring woman who was always willing to help those around her.
The case has since been revisited by television true-crime programs, renewing public interest in the investigation and the long road to a conviction.
After years of unanswered questions, Dee’s family finally learned what happened to her. The verdict brought the criminal case to a major turning point, while Dale’s planned appeal means further legal proceedings may follow.
