California Rabbi Charged With Murder After Fatal Incident Near Costco Gas Pumps

A 35-year-old California rabbi and educator has been charged with murder after a 28-year-old man was struck by a vehicle and later died near a Costco gas station in Camarillo, authorities said.

Abba Avrohom Bryski, of Agoura Hills, was detained at the scene on the evening of October 20 after witnesses directed deputies toward him, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred near the gas pumps at a Costco property on West Ventura Boulevard.

The victim, a 28-year-old man from Modesto, was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities have not initially released his identity, and the county medical examiner is responsible for determining the official cause and manner of death.

Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Bureau are treating the case as a homicide. Bryski was booked into Ventura County jail on a murder charge and also faces an allegation of resisting, obstructing or delaying an officer or emergency medical technician.

Officials have not publicly explained what led to the incident or disclosed evidence establishing whether the collision was intentional. The investigation remains ongoing, and the charges against Bryski have not been proven in court.

The Costco warehouse at the site had not yet opened to shoppers at the time, although its gas station was operating. Authorities have asked anyone with information about the case to contact investigators.
