BRITISH MUM, 25, FOUND DEAD IN ALBANIAN AIRBNB WHILE ON HOLIDAY WITH HER TWO-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER

A young British mother has died during a holiday in Albania, leaving her family devastated and facing the difficult task of bringing her body home.

Ferne King, 25, from Cardenden in Fife, Scotland, was found dead inside a rented apartment in the coastal city of Durrës earlier this month. She had travelled to the country with her two-year-old daughter for what was intended to be a short break.

Cleaner Makes Heartbreaking Discovery

Ferne’s body was reportedly discovered by a cleaner who arrived at the apartment after the booking period ended. She found the young mother unresponsive in bed, with her little daughter nearby.

Emergency services were called to the scene and confirmed Ferne’s death. Her daughter was reported to be in good health and was subsequently placed in the care of Albanian social services while arrangements were made for her family.

The sudden tragedy came just days after the pair had arrived in Albania. Ferne had reportedly booked the apartment for a three-day stay near the city’s Archaeological Museum.

Authorities Investigate Cause of Death

Initial reports from Albanian authorities indicated that no external signs of violence had been identified on Ferne’s body. Investigators reportedly considered a possible medical emergency, including a heart attack, but the precise cause of death had not been officially established in the preliminary reporting.

Biological samples were sent for further laboratory testing, and authorities awaited additional forensic findings. Police had not identified evidence suggesting that a criminal act was involved.

The final circumstances surrounding her death remained subject to the results of the investigations.

Family Faces £10,000 Repatriation Cost

As relatives grieve their sudden loss, Ferne’s family has also faced the financial burden of bringing her body back to Scotland.

A fundraising appeal was launched after the family was reportedly told that approximately £10,000 would be needed to repatriate her remains to the United Kingdom.

The appeal described Ferne as a much-loved mother whose death had left relatives and friends devastated. Her family remembered her as a cherished daughter, sister, granddaughter, aunt and friend.

Tributes also poured in from people who knew her, with one describing her life as having only just begun.

A Young Daughter Left Behind

Ferne’s death has left her two-year-old daughter without her mother, while relatives work through the arrangements following the tragedy abroad. The British Embassy in Tirana was reportedly notified and was involved in communication with the family and the relevant procedures.

For those closest to Ferne, the loss is compounded by the distance from home and the challenge of navigating arrangements in another country during an intensely painful time.

The family’s immediate priority is to bring Ferne home and make arrangements to say goodbye.
