Woman Vanished the Same Day Her ‘People’s Court’ Episode Aired — 15 Years Later, Her Ex-Fiancé Is Arrested
For nearly 15 years, the disappearance of a Florida mother remained a haunting mystery. Michelle Parker vanished on the same day an episode of The People’s Court featuring her and her former fiancé aired on television. Now, investigators say newly analyzed cellphone data and evidence from the couple’s troubled relationship have helped them make an arrest in the long-running case.

Parker, 33, disappeared on November 17, 2011, after dropping off her 3-year-old twins at the home of her former fiancé, Dale Smith II. According to investigators, Smith, now 55, told police that Parker had stayed at his home for only about 10 minutes. However, a recent analysis of cellphone location data allegedly showed that she remained there for more than an hour, contradicting his original account and prompting renewed scrutiny of his movements that day.
The timing of Parker’s disappearance made the case even more disturbing. That same day, an episode of The People’s Court featuring the former couple aired. The dispute centered on an engagement ring, with Smith suing Parker over the ring after their relationship fell apart. During the televised hearing, Parker described allegations of physical abuse and infidelity, while the judge ultimately ordered her to pay $2,500. Investigators later learned that Parker had been deeply anxious about the broadcast, reportedly telling a friend she was a “nervous wreck” because she believed the judge’s comments would insult Smith and that he would not take the public embarrassment well.
According to a 46-page police affidavit, witnesses described a troubled relationship marked by repeated arguments and alleged abuse. One friend reportedly recalled seeing marks on Parker that she believed were caused by Smith. Investigators also uncovered text messages exchanged shortly before Parker disappeared, including a heated exchange about custody of their children. Parker allegedly warned Smith that he had lost the children and that they would be going with her. Other messages reportedly revealed jealousy, sexual tension and ongoing hostility between the former couple.
Police also allege that Smith sent a text message from Parker’s phone to her brother after she disappeared, claiming she was at a shopping center. Investigators say cellphone location data placed the device more than 10 miles away from that location. Parker’s Hummer was later found abandoned in a parking lot, and her cellphone was discovered beneath a bridge weeks afterward. Despite extensive searches, her body has never been recovered. She was declared dead in 2013.
Authorities have not established a definitive motive for the alleged killing. Investigators have considered whether Smith may have been upset about the television appearance, jealous of Parker’s relationships with other men, or angry over the possibility of losing access to his children. Police also cited messages in which Smith allegedly expressed sexual frustration before Parker arrived at his home. These details remain part of the investigation rather than a final determination of why she disappeared.
Smith was arrested on October 14, 2026, after investigators revisited the evidence using modern cellphone analysis and examined inconsistencies in his statements over the years. Police said he was taken into custody shortly before he was scheduled to board a flight to Colombia. He has been charged with second-degree murder and remains in the Orange County Jail without bond. For Parker’s family, the arrest marks a major development in a case that has remained unresolved for almost a decade and a half. Yet with her body still missing, many questions about her final hours remain unanswered.
