Beloved Dad, 39, Dies After Car Smashes Into Busy Lidl Supermarket — Heartbroken Family Pays Tribute
A devoted father of two has died after a car crashed through the entrance of a busy Lidl supermarket in Wolverhampton, England, leaving shoppers injured and a community in shock. James Singh Jagpal, 39, was inside the store when a blue Renault Zoe smashed through the glass doors on Friday evening, October 23.

Emergency services were called to the Lidl on Finchfield Hill shortly before 6 p.m. Witnesses described a frightening scene, with shattered glass, toppled displays and products scattered across the floor. People inside the supermarket were reportedly screaming and crying as shoppers and staff tried to help those caught up in the collision.
James suffered critical injuries and received advanced life support from paramedics at the scene. Despite their efforts, he could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the supermarket. Eight people were assessed by ambulance crews, and three were taken to hospital, including two shoppers and the woman who had been driving the car.
Investigators believe the driver, a woman in her 70s, may have suffered a medical incident behind the wheel. She was treated in hospital and has since been released. Police have said they are continuing to establish exactly what happened, and James’ death is not being treated as suspicious at this stage.
In a heartbreaking tribute, James’ family described him as a “much-loved son and brother,” a devoted partner of more than 20 years, and a loving father to two wonderful daughters. They praised his kindness, generosity and wonderful sense of humour, saying he was loved by many and would be deeply missed. The family also thanked the shoppers, staff and emergency responders who rushed to help him.
The family has appealed to the public to respect their privacy and stop sharing distressing footage of the aftermath online. As they begin to face life without James, their focus remains on grieving a man they described as the centre of their world.
West Midlands Police are urging anyone who witnessed the collision or was driving near Finchfield Hill between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. that evening to come forward. Investigators are particularly interested in dashcam footage that may show the blue Renault Zoe before it entered the supermarket.
