Escaped Convicted Killer Could Strike Again, Victim’s Friend Warns as Manhunt Continues
A convicted murderer who escaped from a Tennessee prison is the subject of an ongoing manhunt, as a close friend of his victim warns that someone else could be hurt if he is not captured soon.

Jacob Morley, 28, escaped from the Northwest Correctional Complex in Tiptonville, Tennessee, late on Sunday, October 25, according to the Tennessee Department of Correction. Officials discovered he was missing and reviewed security footage, which reportedly showed him breaching the prison’s perimeter fence while wearing his prison uniform.
Authorities later released surveillance footage showing Morley allegedly stealing a white 2008 Ford F-350 pickup truck around 1 a.m. on Monday, October 26. Investigators have been working with law enforcement agencies as the search continues.
Morley was sentenced to life in prison in 2025 after being convicted of first-degree murder and several related offenses, including aggravated burglary, tampering with evidence, evading arrest and vandalism. The case involved the killing of Cody Birchfield, whose body was discovered buried beneath Morley’s home.
Diana Reid, a close friend of Birchfield, told Fox News on October 27 that she fears Morley could harm another person while he remains at large. She described him as extremely dangerous and said she was deeply concerned about the possibility of another victim.
Reid also expressed fear about not knowing where Morley might be heading or what he might do next. She warned that the situation was particularly troubling because he had already been convicted of a violent crime and could have little incentive to return to prison.
Authorities have likewise warned that Morley should be considered dangerous. Anyone who sees him or has information about his whereabouts is urged to contact law enforcement by calling 911. Officials continue to seek the public’s assistance as the multi-state search unfolds.
