Rideshare Driver Accused of Kidnapping and Stabbing 15-Year-Old Girl — Teen Fights Back With Fire Extinguisher to Escape

A 15-year-old girl in Baltimore, Maryland, survived a terrifying ordeal after a man allegedly posing as an unlicensed rideshare driver kidnapped and stabbed her. According to court documents cited by PEOPLE, the teenager managed to fight back with a fire extinguisher and escape, despite suffering multiple stab wounds.

The suspect, 23-year-old Abubakarr Barrie, was arrested on October 22 and charged with nine offenses, including attempted murder, assault and kidnapping. Investigators allege that the incident began when the girl accepted a ride from Barrie to a takeout restaurant in northeast Baltimore.

According to charging documents, Barrie began driving in the wrong direction. When the teenager questioned him, he allegedly became violent and placed her in a headlock before taking her to his home on Garrison Boulevard in northwest Baltimore.

Prosecutors allege that Barrie dragged the girl into a small basement room, told her not to scream and stabbed her multiple times. The teenager fought back by striking him with a fire extinguisher, giving her an opportunity to flee.

Bleeding and without clothing or shoes, the girl ran to a nearby neighborhood and knocked on residents’ doors asking for help. One resident allowed her to use a phone to contact her mother and call 911. Emergency responders rushed her to a local hospital, where she was treated for five stab wounds and a collapsed lung, according to reports cited by PEOPLE.

Barrie remains in custody and was scheduled for a court hearing on November 25. His public defender had not immediately responded to PEOPLE’s request for comment. The allegations have not been proven in court.
