BODY OF 7-YEAR-OLD GIRL EXHUMED AS THREE FAMILY MEMBERS FACE CHARGES IN ALLEGED TORTURE DEATH

A heartbreaking investigation on Long Island has taken a disturbing new turn after authorities exhumed the body of 7-year-old Jor’Dynn Duncan. Prosecutors allege the little girl endured months of horrific abuse while in the care of people entrusted with protecting her.

Jor’Dynn died on December 29, 2025, in Bayport, New York. Months later, investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding her death, with the latest development involving the exhumation of her remains for further forensic investigation. Her biological mother, Portia Duncan, authorized the procedure in the hope that additional evidence could help establish the full truth.

According to prosecutors, Jor’Dynn suffered approximately 90 injuries before her death. Authorities allege that she endured prolonged abuse and ultimately died from a massive, untreated infection caused by sharp-force injuries. Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney has described the alleged treatment as a pattern of systematic cruelty.

Three women have been charged in connection with the case: Emily Kelly, Jor’Dynn’s legal guardian and her father’s fiancée; Kelly’s mother, Barbara Renner; and Kelly’s daughter, Elyssa Seymore. Kelly faces a second-degree murder charge, while Renner and Seymore face charges related to their alleged roles in the abuse and confinement of the child. All three have pleaded not guilty and are awaiting trial.

The case has also raised serious questions about the child welfare system. Jor’Dynn had been placed in Kelly’s care following a custody dispute, despite objections from her biological mother. Attorneys representing Portia Duncan allege that warning signs were missed, including numerous school absences and evidence that the child may have been suffering abuse.

Portia Duncan is also pursuing legal action against Suffolk County and other institutions, alleging failures to protect her daughter. The civil case could bring further scrutiny to the decisions and oversight that preceded the child’s death.

For Jor’Dynn’s mother and loved ones, the exhumation represents another painful step in a search for answers. Investigators have not publicly detailed what additional evidence they hope to uncover, and the district attorney’s office has declined to comment further while the criminal investigation remains open.

A little girl who depended on adults for safety is now at the center of a case that has shaken her community. As the legal proceedings continue, her family hopes the investigation will reveal what happened and whether earlier intervention could have prevented the tragedy.

The three defendants remain accused, not convicted. The investigation and legal proceedings are ongoing.
