British TikTok Influencer, 23, Held in Notorious Dubai Detention Center as She Awaits Murder Trial
A 23-year-old British TikTok influencer is facing an uncertain future in Dubai, where she remains in police detention while awaiting trial over the fatal stabbing of her boyfriend. Brooke George, from Gravesend, Kent, has been charged with murdering 26-year-old William “Bill” Treeby. Her family says the conditions where she is being held are taking a serious toll on her mental health, adding to their anguish as they wait for answers.

George was arrested at Dubai International Airport in June as she attempted to return to the United Kingdom, following Treeby’s death on June 21. She has not denied stabbing him, but her legal team maintains that she acted in self-defense during a violent confrontation. The allegations have placed her at the center of a high-profile case with potentially severe consequences under the United Arab Emirates’ legal system.
While the case moves through the courts, George is being held at Bur Dubai police station, a detention facility that has drawn renewed attention because of her family’s concerns. Her mother, Tess, says her daughter is struggling to sleep amid constant bright lighting and the distressing sounds of other detainees. She also claims that promised medication to help George sleep has not been provided.
Communication with her family has reportedly become increasingly difficult. Calls home are said to be brief and sometimes cut off abruptly, leaving her relatives worried about her condition and unable to offer much reassurance. The family has received support from Detained in Dubai, a campaign group that has called for her welfare and access to appropriate medical care to be addressed while the legal proceedings continue.

The next stage of the case has also been delayed. A hearing on October 7 reportedly took place by video link, but prosecution witnesses failed to appear despite being summoned. The trial was postponed until October 28, prolonging the wait for George and her family. She could face the death penalty if convicted, although no verdict has been reached and the allegations remain before the court.
The case has attracted further attention because of the conflicting realities surrounding the tragedy: a young man has lost his life, while the woman accused of killing him says she was defending herself. Treeby’s death has left his loved ones grieving, while George’s family continues to raise concerns about her treatment and ability to cope in detention.
For now, the central questions remain unanswered. The court must examine the evidence surrounding the fatal encounter and determine what happened, while George remains in custody awaiting the next hearing. For both families, the coming proceedings could prove decisive in a case marked by grief, serious allegations and an increasingly anxious wait for justice.
