California Husband Charged With Murder After Missing Wife’s Burned Remains Are Discovered

A missing-person investigation in California has taken a devastating turn after authorities identified burned human remains as those of a 30-year-old woman whose husband allegedly told investigators that federal immigration agents had taken her away. Gurinder Gill, 28, has now been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the death of his wife, Jasmine Gill, as detectives work to piece together what happened in the days before she disappeared.

According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, Jasmine was last seen at the couple’s home in Sacramento on September 30, 2026. Her cousin reported her missing on October 4, prompting authorities to begin searching for answers. At first, investigators were faced with a troubling account from Gurinder, who reportedly claimed that agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, known as ICE, had taken Jasmine into custody while she was outside checking the mail.

Detectives contacted immigration officials to verify the claim. Authorities were told that ICE had not carried out any enforcement activity at the couple’s residence. As investigators examined the circumstances surrounding Jasmine’s disappearance, they reportedly found inconsistencies in Gurinder’s statements, raising further questions about his account of what had happened to his wife.

A disturbing discovery had already been made several days earlier. On October 1, authorities found burned human remains in El Dorado County, east of Sacramento. At the time, the identity of the deceased had not been publicly established. Investigators later confirmed that the remains belonged to Jasmine, turning the missing-person case into a homicide investigation and intensifying the search for evidence.

As detectives continued their work, they learned that Jasmine and Gurinder had been involved in divorce proceedings and a child-custody dispute. Authorities have disclosed that this was part of the background to the investigation, but they have not publicly established a motive for the alleged killing. The discovery of the remains, combined with the inconsistencies investigators described in Gurinder’s account, led detectives to obtain a murder arrest warrant.

Gurinder was arrested on October 14 and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail. The sheriff’s office announced the arrest on October 16, confirming that he was facing a murder charge. According to authorities, he is being held without bail. Investigators also carried out search warrants at two residences connected to him as they continued gathering evidence.

For Jasmine’s relatives, the case has brought the agonizing uncertainty of a missing-person investigation to a heartbreaking conclusion. While authorities have identified her remains and arrested her husband, many questions about the final days of her life remain unanswered. Investigators have not released a complete account of what happened or publicly confirmed the circumstances in which she died.

The case remains a criminal proceeding, and the allegations against Gurinder Gill have not been proven at trial. For now, detectives are continuing to investigate the evidence surrounding Jasmine’s disappearance and death, while her family faces the loss of a loved one under deeply distressing circumstances.
