California Nurse’s Husband Claimed ICE Took Her — Now He Faces Murder Charges After Her Burned Remains Were Found
A California mother reportedly vanished while going through a divorce and child custody dispute. Her husband allegedly blamed immigration agents, but investigators later uncovered a devastating discovery.
A California nurse who was reportedly seeking a fresh start for herself and her baby has been found dead after her husband allegedly told investigators that federal immigration agents had taken her away.
Gurinder Gill, 28, has been charged with the murder of his wife, Jasmine Gill, 30, after her burned remains were discovered in a wooded area of El Dorado County, authorities said.
The case has shocked the Sacramento community, raising troubling questions about the circumstances surrounding Jasmine’s disappearance and the explanation her husband initially provided.
A Missing Mother and a Disturbing Explanation
Jasmine was last seen at her Sacramento home on September 30, 2026. Four days later, her cousin reported her missing, prompting an investigation by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
During the initial inquiry, Gurinder allegedly told investigators that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents had taken Jasmine into custody while she was checking the mail outside their residence.
Detectives contacted ICE to verify his account. According to the sheriff’s office, the agency confirmed that no immigration enforcement activity had occurred at the home.
Investigators subsequently identified several inconsistencies in Gurinder’s statements about his wife’s disappearance.
They also learned that the couple had been involved in ongoing divorce proceedings and a child custody dispute.
Burned Remains Discovered in a Remote Area
On October 1, firefighters responding to reports of smoke near Pollock Pines discovered human remains in a wooded area of El Dorado County, east of Sacramento.
The remains had been burned and buried, according to media reports. Authorities later confirmed that they belonged to Jasmine.
The discovery transformed the missing-person investigation into a homicide case.
Following their investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Gurinder on murder charges. He was arrested on October 14 and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail, where authorities said he was being held without bail.
Officials have not publicly disclosed the precise cause of Jasmine’s death or exactly where the alleged killing occurred.
A Nurse and Mother Who Wanted a New Beginning
Beyond the criminal investigation, Jasmine’s death has devastated relatives who remember her as a devoted daughter, sister and mother.
A registered nurse originally from India, Jasmine had an eight-month-old son. Her mother, who also worked as a nurse in India, is now facing the loss of her daughter while the family makes arrangements for her remains.
A fundraiser established by relatives said Jasmine had been seeking a divorce and hoping to build a safer future for herself and her child.
“She was fighting for a better future for herself and her baby,” the family’s fundraising appeal stated.
Her death has left the infant without his mother and relatives struggling to cope with a loss they say is difficult to comprehend.
The fundraiser is intended to help return Jasmine’s remains to India, cover funeral expenses and support the child’s needs.
Investigation Continues as Family Seeks Justice
Authorities have not released all the evidence gathered during the investigation. The specific circumstances of Jasmine’s death and the events leading up to the discovery of her remains remain important unanswered questions.
Gurinder has been charged with murder, but the allegations must be addressed through the criminal justice process.
For Jasmine’s family, the focus is now on bringing her home, caring for her young son and seeking accountability for what happened.
A mother who had been trying to start a new chapter in her life is now at the center of a case that has left her family searching for answers.
