Florida Mom Accused of Enlisting Her Two Children to Break Into Neighbor’s Home and Drag Furniture Outside

A Florida woman is facing multiple criminal charges after police say she brought her two children along to break into a neighbor’s apartment and remove furniture and other belongings while the residents were away at work. The bizarre incident allegedly unfolded just two weeks after the woman had moved into the same apartment complex. When the homeowners returned, they were shocked to discover their belongings scattered across a shared outdoor area — and surveillance footage reportedly revealed who was behind the incident.

Nicole Bottiglieri-Vega

Police identified the suspect as 42-year-old Nicole Bottiglieri-Vega. According to an arrest affidavit, officers were called to an apartment complex in the 200 block of Northeast 53rd Street in Miami on October 29, 2026. A man and his wife had returned home around 3 p.m. after leaving for work earlier that day, only to find that several of their possessions had been removed from their apartment. Furniture and other personal belongings had been left in a common area behind the building, extending toward the street and parking lot.

The property manager reviewed surveillance footage to determine what had happened. Investigators say the video showed Bottiglieri-Vega leaving her apartment with two children before approaching the couple’s rear entrance. Wearing a long dress, she allegedly forced open the back door and entered the residence. She and the children then began removing furniture and other belongings, carrying the items outside and leaving them in the shared area. The forced entry reportedly damaged the door, its lock and the property inside. A separate Ring camera recording from another resident was also reviewed by investigators and allegedly supported the account.

After identifying the woman, officers attempted to contact her at her apartment, but she reportedly refused to answer the door or respond to their knocks. Because her children were inside, police contacted Florida’s Department of Children and Families (DCF) to check on their welfare. A child welfare investigator reportedly attempted to make contact that evening but was unsuccessful. Neighbors also raised concerns about Bottiglieri-Vega’s alleged drug use, telling investigators they had seen her smoking crack cocaine and leaving glass pipes and small plastic bags near her residence. These statements were included in the police investigation, but they are allegations and are not among the reported charges.

The following afternoon, officers returned to the apartment complex with DCF personnel. According to the arrest report, a police sergeant heard screaming and noticed blood near the apartment entrance. Officers forced their way inside and found Bottiglieri-Vega in a bedroom. Police allege that she refused commands and physically resisted as they attempted to arrest her. She was eventually taken into custody and transported to a police station. But authorities say the situation continued there: while inside a holding cell, Bottiglieri-Vega managed to slip one wrist out of her handcuffs and moved toward a door leading into the main station area before an officer stopped her and secured the restraints again.

Bottiglieri-Vega was charged with grand theft, contributing to the delinquency or dependency of a child, criminal mischief and resisting an officer without violence. She was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, with local reports placing her bond at approximately $11,650. She has pleaded not guilty, and the investigation by the Department of Children and Families remains ongoing. Authorities have not publicly clarified who is caring for the children following her arrest. What began as a neighbor’s discovery of furniture left outside their home has now become a criminal case involving allegations of burglary, property damage and the welfare of two children.
