Golden Puppy Found on a Bench in a Flooded Subway Station

Bodycam footage recorded on 5 September 2024 at 07:43 shows a rescuer wading into a flooded underground station to lift a small golden retriever puppy from a wooden bench as water poured down the stairs behind it.

The puppy’s whole world had shrunk to a few wet planks. Floodwater covered the station floor, reflecting the fluorescent lights and the tiled columns, while a curtain of water cascaded down the stairway at the far end of the platform. A train sat motionless along the platform. On a dark wooden bench above the waterline, a small golden retriever puppy sat soaked through, its fur darkened and clinging, its large dark eyes fixed on the camera.

The footage, captured from a chest-mounted bodycam, shows only the rescuer’s arms: bright orange waterproof sleeves with reflective silver stripes, black gloves, and a rescue harness with carabiners visible at the bottom of the frame. The rescuer moves in slowly. One gloved hand rests gently against the puppy’s wet shoulder while the other slides carefully beneath its chest. The puppy blinks, glances sideways, and stays still.

Then, supporting its chest and hindquarters with both hands, the rescuer lifts it clear of the bench. Water drips from its golden fur as it comes up, front paws dangling for a moment before the puppy is drawn in low and secure against the rescuer’s chest, its paws resting on the orange jacket. Its expression, wide-eyed at the start, visibly softens as it settles.

No other animals were seen on the bench, and the puppy did not appear to struggle at any point during the lift. It was held in place above the floodwater, the empty bench and the inundated platform still visible behind it, as the recording ends.
