Steady hands on a slippery ledge

The rescuer, dressed in a bright red waterproof mountain rescue jacket, reinforced black gloves and a secured climbing harness with metal carabiners and safety rope, keeps the dog pinned gently against the rock with one hand while the whitewater rushes behind it. The dog blinks and breathes quickly but stays put — the ledge is slick, and every movement counts.

Checking the dog’s red rescue harness with the other hand, the rescuer slides a glove under the golden retriever’s chest. The dog cautiously shifts its front paws onto a more stable patch of rock.

Guiding it sideways to safety

Using the harness to support the dog’s weight without putting any strain on its neck, the rescuer guides the golden retriever sideways along the broad, stable section of the ledge. Step by step, the dog keeps its balance on the wet stone while waterfall mist drifts across the gorge.

Within seconds, the dog reaches a wider rock platform safely away from the water. The rescuer gently strokes its shoulder. The golden retriever relaxes slightly, looks upward — and gives a small tail wag.
