Horrifying Final Moments: Woman, 25, Slips at Waterfall and Plunges More Than 65 Feet to Her Death as Friends Watch in Shock

WEST SUMATRA, INDONESIA — A relaxing day beside a waterfall ended in tragedy when a 25-year-old woman lost her footing on slippery rocks and was swept over a steep cliff in front of her friends. The terrifying incident was captured on video, showing how quickly a moment near flowing water can turn into a fatal emergency. Despite an extensive search operation, rescuers later recovered the young woman’s body at the bottom of the ravine.

The victim, identified as Windy Rahma Putri, was visiting Robo Waterfall in the Harau area of West Sumatra, Indonesia, on Thursday, October 15, 2026. She had been bathing in the water with friends when the accident occurred at approximately 3:45 p.m. According to footage described by The Sun, Windy was resting on rocks surrounded by flowing water before appearing to shift her position as though preparing to stand. As she moved, she suddenly lost her footing and was carried by the current toward the edge of the waterfall.

In the final seconds captured on camera, Windy appeared to reach desperately toward a nearby friend, seemingly trying to grab hold and stop herself from falling. But she was unable to reach the person in time. She then disappeared over the edge of the approximately 65-foot drop, leaving her companions facing a terrifying and helpless situation. The incident illustrates how dangerous slippery rocks and strong currents can be, even when people are close enough to one another to attempt a rescue.

Authorities were alerted, and a search operation began later that afternoon. Abdul Malik, head of the Padang Search and Rescue Office, said the woman was believed to have slipped, drowned and been swept away by the water. Rescue teams searched the surrounding area, but darkness and the difficult terrain made the operation challenging. Windy was not located on the first day.

The search resumed the following morning, involving 119 personnel from rescue services, police, the military, firefighters, disaster management officials, local authorities and community members. At approximately 10:45 a.m. on Friday, October 16, rescuers found Windy’s body at the bottom of the deep ravine. Because the cliffside was steep and dangerous, specialized ropes were used to bring her body back up. Her remains were subsequently handed over to her family.

Windy’s death is a heartbreaking reminder of how unpredictable natural water environments can be. Rocks around waterfalls can become extremely slippery, while moving water can quickly pull someone toward dangerous drops. For her family and friends, a day that began as an outing ended in an unimaginable loss. As news of the incident spreads, the tragedy underscores the importance of taking extra care around waterfalls, where even a brief loss of balance can have irreversible consequences.
