IDF Kills Final Hamas Cell Member Linked to Shani Louk’s Abduction During October 7 Attack

An Israeli airstrike in the Gaza Strip has killed a Hamas operative identified by the Israel Defense Forces as one of the men involved in the abduction of German-Israeli woman Shani Louk during the October 7, 2023, attack on southern Israel. The operative, identified as Tamer Mohammad Ibrahim Al-Zabaq, was killed in an airstrike in Jabalia, northern Gaza, on October 19, 2026, according to the Israeli military. His death marks what the IDF described as the elimination of the final member of the Hamas cell identified in connection with the abduction.

According to the IDF, Al-Zabaq infiltrated Israeli territory during the October 7 assault and participated in the kidnapping. The military also alleged that, after the attack, he continued advancing operations against Israeli troops and worked to rebuild Hamas’s military infrastructure in Gaza. Israeli officials said he had recently been involved in activities they considered threats to Israeli forces and civilians. The strike was carried out as part of Israel’s continuing military operations in the territory.

Shani Louk, 22, was a German-Israeli tattoo artist who attended the Nova music festival near Kibbutz Re’im on October 7, 2023. During the Hamas-led attack, she was killed, and her body was taken into Gaza. Images showing her apparently lifeless body lying in the back of a pickup truck surrounded by armed men spread rapidly around the world. The footage became one of the most widely recognized images of the October 7 massacre, drawing international attention to the fate of those killed and abducted during the assault.

In late October 2023, Israeli forensic investigators confirmed Louk’s death after identifying a fragment of her skull. Her remains were recovered by Israeli forces in Gaza in May 2024 and returned to her family for burial. The discovery brought an end to months of uncertainty for her relatives, who had initially hoped she might still be alive. Her case became a symbol of the suffering experienced by families whose loved ones were killed or taken during the attack.

The Times of Israel reported that Al-Zabaq’s death marked the end of the Hamas cell seen transporting Louk’s body into Gaza. Three other members had reportedly been killed earlier in the war, while another had been captured by Israeli forces. The Israeli military said Al-Zabaq had continued activities against Israel after October 7, but the public announcement did not provide detailed independent evidence about his individual role in Louk’s abduction.

The announcement has once again brought attention to Louk’s tragic story and the lasting impact of the October 7 attack. While Israel says the last identified member of the cell involved in taking her body has now been killed, the broader conflict in Gaza continues, with military operations and disputes over the ceasefire shaping events across the region. For Louk’s family, the recovery of her remains and the continuing developments surrounding those allegedly involved cannot undo the loss of a young woman whose final moments became known around the world.
