JonBenét Ramsey Case: Boulder Police Confirm New Evidence Collection as Investigation Continues

Nearly 30 years after six-year-old JonBenét Ramsey was found murdered in her family’s Colorado home, investigators say they are continuing to collect evidence, conduct interviews and revisit older forensic material in hopes of solving one of America’s most closely watched cold cases.

In its latest official update in December 2025, the Boulder Police Department confirmed that detectives had conducted new interviews, re-interviewed people following tips, collected additional evidence and tested or retested existing items. Officials have not disclosed exactly what was collected or whether the latest work has identified a new suspect.

JonBenét was reported missing on December 26, 1996, after her family discovered a ransom note inside their Boulder home. Her father later found her body in the basement. An autopsy determined that she died from strangulation and suffered a severe head injury. Despite decades of investigation, no one has been charged with her murder.

DNA evidence remains a major focus. Investigators have worked with forensic specialists to evaluate whether advances in DNA testing could generate new leads from evidence preserved since the original investigation. Police have said that the complexity and limited quantity of some samples require careful consideration before further testing.

The case drew further attention in 2026 after JonBenét’s father, John Ramsey, renewed calls for forensic genetic genealogy and independent laboratory analysis. Authorities have said they are reviewing advanced testing options with outside experts. They have also stated that a separate DNA laboratory misconduct case did not affect the Ramsey investigation, following a review of the records.

Boulder police continue to describe the homicide as an active investigation and urge anyone with relevant information to come forward. Officials have emphasized that new testing and renewed interviews are investigative steps—not confirmation that a breakthrough has occurred.

As the case approaches its 30th anniversary in December 2026, JonBenét’s killer remains unidentified publicly, and investigators say the search for reliable evidence continues.
