Man Jumps From Window to Escape Terrifying Takeaway Fire as 70 Firefighters Battle Massive London Blaze

A man was forced to leap from an upstairs window to escape a terrifying fire that engulfed a takeaway restaurant and the flats above it in North London on Bonfire Night. The dramatic incident unfolded on November 5, 2026, along Seven Sisters Road in Finsbury Park, where flames rapidly spread through the upper floors and roof of the building. As thick smoke billowed into the night sky, emergency crews rushed to the scene, while people nearby watched in shock as the fire continued to grow.

The London Fire Brigade dispatched 10 fire engines and approximately 70 firefighters after receiving multiple emergency calls. Eight people were evacuated from the building, but one man found himself trapped by the rapidly spreading flames and had no apparent way out. Before firefighters arrived, he jumped from a second-floor window in an attempt to escape the inferno. He was treated by ambulance crews for minor injuries and subsequently taken to hospital. Despite the frightening circumstances, he survived the escape.

Footage from the scene showed enormous flames tearing through the upper part of the building, with dark smoke rising above the surrounding properties. The fire was reportedly so intense that firefighters had to direct water onto the building from several different angles. Around 100 people gathered outside as emergency workers battled to bring the situation under control. Witnesses described feeling the heat from a considerable distance and watching anxiously as the flames appeared to intensify.

The building housed a takeaway restaurant, understood to be the Shish Shack, with residential accommodation above it. The fire caused extensive damage to the second-floor flat and roof, while part of the first floor was also affected. The surrounding area was temporarily disrupted as police and emergency crews secured the scene. Seven Sisters Road was closed between Holloway Road and Finsbury Park station, and residents were advised to keep their windows and doors shut because of the heavy smoke.

Firefighters eventually brought the blaze under control at approximately 8:25 p.m. According to the London Fire Brigade, the fire was believed to have been caused by combustible materials being stored too close to a heat source. Investigators were still examining the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities have not reported any additional serious injuries beyond the man who jumped from the building.

For the people who lived and worked inside the property, the incident could have ended far more tragically. Eight people had to be evacuated, and one man was left with no choice but to jump from a window to escape the flames. The rapid response of emergency crews helped prevent the fire from spreading further, but the extensive damage left behind serves as a frightening reminder of how quickly a fire can turn an ordinary evening into a life-threatening emergency.
