Mother Loses Her Six-Year-Old Daughter — Then Suffers Another Devastating Loss Just Five Weeks Later
A British mother has endured unimaginable heartbreak after losing both her six-year-old daughter and her unborn baby within just five weeks.

Jessica Gardner, 35, was left devastated when her daughter, Luna Ivy Webster, died in October 2025 following years of serious heart problems. Just over a month later, Jessica lost her second child, a baby boy named Blake Moon Stevens, who was stillborn when she was 38 weeks pregnant.
The double tragedy left Jessica and her family struggling to cope with two devastating losses in an extraordinarily short period.
Daughter Battled a Rare Heart Condition
Luna was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS), a rare congenital condition in which the left side of the heart is severely underdeveloped and cannot pump blood around the body effectively.

From birth, Luna required intensive medical care and underwent three major heart operations under the supervision of specialists at Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
She also suffered a cardiac arrest when she was just over a month old. Despite the challenges, Luna continued to fight through years of treatment, with her family cherishing every milestone.
Her final operation took place on September 23, 2025, when she was five. The procedure was intended to improve her circulation and prospects for the future.
Tragically, Luna suffered another cardiac arrest and a catastrophic brain injury. She died on October 4, 2025, shortly after turning six.
Her grandmother, Tracy Stroud, recalled how brave Luna had been despite enduring so much pain. Doctors had previously warned the family about the uncertainty surrounding her life expectancy, making every birthday especially precious.
Mother Loses Her Second Baby
At the time of Luna’s death, Jessica was pregnant with her second child and approaching the end of her pregnancy.
Five weeks later, on November 9, 2025, tragedy struck again when baby Blake was stillborn at Medway Maritime Hospital in England.
Jessica had experienced severe bleeding at home in Gillingham and required an emergency Caesarean section. She reportedly lost around three litres of blood, leaving her own life in danger.
Her mother, Tracy, feared she could lose Jessica as well as the two children.
The family had held onto hope that Blake would bring some comfort after Luna’s death. Luna had reportedly been excited about becoming a big sister and had told people about the baby growing in her mother’s belly.
But the siblings never had the chance to meet.
Tracy described the five weeks as a period of unimaginable pain, saying Jessica had lost everything she had been looking forward to in such a short time.
A Special Cot Gave the Family Precious Time
Despite their grief, the family was able to take Blake home for ten days using a specialist device known as a cuddle cot.
The cot uses a cooling system to preserve a baby’s body after death, allowing bereaved parents and relatives to spend more time with their child, hold them, take photographs and create lasting memories.
During those ten days, the family took photographs of Blake and made casts of his face, hands and feet.
For Tracy, the time they were able to spend with her grandson was invaluable. She wanted other families experiencing the loss of a baby to have the same opportunity to say goodbye and create memories.
Grandmother Raises Money in Blake’s Memory
Determined to help other bereaved families, Tracy began fundraising to provide another cuddle cot for Medway Maritime Hospital.
She learned that the hospital had only two such cots, with one reportedly out of service. Her fundraising efforts included a quiz night and donations collected at her church’s coffee morning.
Together, the contributions raised £1,200 for a new cot, along with an additional £50 for a memorial plaque bearing Blake’s name.
Tracy hopes the donation will give other parents precious time with their babies and help ensure that Blake’s life is remembered.
She explained that even though he was stillborn, he existed, he was loved, and his name deserved to live on.
Turning Grief Into Help for Other Families
For Jessica and her family, the losses of Luna and Blake have left an enduring void. Yet Tracy’s fundraising effort has given them a way to honour both children while supporting others facing similar heartbreak.
The planned donation is intended to provide comfort to families during one of the most difficult experiences imaginable: saying goodbye to a child they had hoped to bring home.
Tracy hopes the new cuddle cot will offer other parents the same gift her family received — time with their baby, the chance to create memories, and a meaningful opportunity to say goodbye.
