NANCY GUTHRIE CASE: SHERIFF REVEALS NEW DNA INVESTIGATION EFFORTS NINE MONTHS AFTER SUSPECTED ABDUCTION — NO ARRESTS, FAMILY STILL WAITING FOR ANSWERS

Nine months after 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her home in Arizona, investigators are continuing to pursue forensic evidence in a case that has yet to produce a publicly identified suspect or an arrest.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department issued a new update on October 30, confirming that its investigators are still working with the Nancy Guthrie Task Force and laboratory specialists to advance the investigation through DNA analysis.

The announcement comes as the disappearance of Nancy, the mother of NBC Today co-host Savannah Guthrie, approaches another painful milestone for her family.

Although months have passed, authorities say the investigation remains active, with additional scientific work underway and investigators continuing to seek information from the public.

INVESTIGATORS TRAVEL TO FLORIDA FOR NEW DNA ANALYSIS DISCUSSIONS
In its October 30 statement, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department revealed that investigators traveled to Florida earlier in the month to meet with laboratory scientists.

During the meeting, investigators and specialists discussed additional approaches that might help move the case forward.

The department said several ideas were discussed and confirmed that it continues working with its investigative partners to solve Nancy’s disappearance.

The update did not identify a new DNA match, name a suspect or announce a breakthrough in the forensic investigation.

Instead, it indicates that investigators are continuing to examine what scientific testing may be able to reveal from evidence already collected.

DNA analysis has been an important part of the investigation since the early stages. Authorities have previously acknowledged that forensic testing and digital evidence review are complex processes that can take considerable time.

For Nancy’s family, the latest announcement offers confirmation that investigators are still working on the case, but it does not yet provide the answers they have been waiting for.

THE NIGHT NANCY GUTHRIE DISAPPEARED
Nancy was last seen on the evening of January 31, 2026, after a relative dropped her off at her home in the Catalina Foothills area near Tucson, Arizona.

She was 84 years old.

According to the investigative timeline, her family discovered she was missing the following day, February 1, after she failed to appear as expected.

Authorities believe she was taken from her home against her will.

Investigators have repeatedly stated that Nancy did not leave voluntarily. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos previously said authorities were confident she had been taken from the property.

One of the most significant pieces of publicly released evidence is surveillance imagery showing a masked individual outside Nancy’s home.

The FBI released images of the person, who appeared to be carrying a backpack and wearing clothing that concealed their identity. The footage showed the individual near Nancy’s front door and apparently interfering with the doorbell camera.

Despite the release of those images and extensive investigative work, authorities have not publicly identified the person shown.

TWO RANSOM NOTES ADDED ANOTHER LAYER OF UNCERTAINTY
The investigation took another turn in July when authorities released two purported ransom notes connected to Nancy’s disappearance.

The first note, reportedly sent on February 2, claimed Nancy was unharmed and demanded $4 million in cryptocurrency in exchange for her release.

A second note, reportedly received on February 6, made a dramatically different claim, stating that Nancy had died shortly after being taken.

Authorities made the notes public in the hope that someone might recognize the writer’s language, unusual expressions or distinctive writing style.

Investigators did not publicly establish that either note was authentic or that both came from the same person.

The conflicting messages created further uncertainty around what happened after Nancy disappeared and whether the individuals responsible had communicated with the family or media.

Authorities have continued asking the public to examine the notes carefully and report any information that might help identify their author.

POSSIBLE NEW RANSOM NOTE WAS LATER QUESTIONED
In September, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that investigators had become aware of another possible ransom note connected to the case.

The department said the joint task force was examining the information and reviewing social media discussions surrounding the reported message to determine whether it was credible.

However, subsequent reporting indicated that authorities did not consider the new note credible.

The development did not lead to a publicly announced suspect or a confirmed breakthrough.

Investigators have therefore continued to focus on the evidence already available, including forensic material, surveillance images, digital information and tips from members of the public.

SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT SAYS EVEN A SMALL TIP COULD MATTER
In its latest announcement, the sheriff’s department repeated its request for public assistance.

Officials emphasized that even a seemingly minor detail could become important to the investigation.

That appeal is particularly significant because the case has involved a large amount of information from different sources, including surveillance material, public submissions and forensic evidence.

A person who recognizes something in the released images, remembers unusual activity around the Catalina Foothills neighborhood or has information about the ransom notes could potentially provide investigators with a useful lead.

Authorities have not disclosed whether the latest laboratory discussions have produced new investigative directions or whether any particular person is currently being treated as a suspect.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or provide an anonymous tip through the Pima County area’s 88-CRIME hotline at 520-882-7463.

SAVANNAH GUTHRIE MAKES AN EMOTIONAL PLEA NINE MONTHS LATER
As investigators released their latest update, Savannah Guthrie also shared an emotional message about her mother’s disappearance.

On November 1, Savannah posted an old drawing made by her daughter, Vale, featuring a blue umbrella in the rain and the words: “I know it might not seem like it, but I really need my mommy.”

Savannah explained that the drawing reflected how she felt as her family continued living with the uncertainty surrounding Nancy’s disappearance.

She wrote that although the outside world continued moving forward and daily life appeared normal, the family’s situation had not returned to normal and never would.

She also referred to her siblings and the grandchildren who miss Nancy, saying the family continues to ache for her and cry out for answers.

Savannah urged anyone who knows something to come forward, reminding the public that the reward remains available.

Her message reflected the family’s continuing hope that someone may provide information capable of moving the investigation forward.

Savannah has continued balancing her professional responsibilities with the search for answers about her mother. In earlier public comments, she explained that returning to work did not mean she had stopped thinking about Nancy.

NINE MONTHS LATER, THE BIGGEST QUESTIONS REMAIN
The latest update confirms that the investigation is still active, but several major questions remain unanswered.

Who was the masked individual captured outside Nancy’s home? Was that person acting alone or with others? What happened after Nancy was taken from the property? And can further DNA analysis identify someone connected to the disappearance?

Authorities have not publicly answered those questions.

The investigation has involved the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, the FBI and laboratory partners, with forensic analysis continuing months after the initial search began.

For now, there has been no publicly announced arrest and no confirmed identification of the person responsible.

Nine months after Nancy Guthrie vanished, investigators are still looking for the evidence that could explain what happened inside her home and where she was taken.

Her family’s public appeals continue, and the sheriff’s department is asking anyone with even a small piece of information to come forward.

The central question remains unchanged: will the latest forensic work finally provide the breakthrough needed to bring answers to Nancy Guthrie’s family?
