NYPD OFFERS $10,000 REWARD AFTER BROOKLYN JOGGER KATIE SUAREZ IS FOUND WITH CRITICAL NECK INJURIES — INVESTIGATORS SEARCH FOR UNKNOWN ATTACKER

Police in New York City are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest after 28-year-old Katie Suarez was brutally attacked while jogging along a waterfront pathway in Brooklyn.

Suarez, a bank employee who was training for the New York City Marathon, was found seriously injured by her own father on the evening of October 30. She had been expected to meet her parents after her run but never arrived.

As of November 2, Suarez had been declared brain-dead and remained on life support at NYU Langone Hospital, according to reports citing police and family information.

Investigators believe the attack may have been random. No suspect has been publicly identified, no arrest has been announced, and authorities have not established a motive.

The case has become increasingly difficult to solve because the stretch of pathway where the attack occurred has little or no surveillance coverage.

A ROUTINE EVENING THAT TURNED INTO A FAMILY NIGHTMARE
Suarez worked as a bank teller at a TD Bank branch in the Caesar’s Bay shopping area of Brooklyn.

On Friday, October 30, she finished work at approximately 6:30 p.m. and met her mother nearby. Her father was also expected to join them, and the family had plans to meet after Katie completed her run.

According to NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny, Suarez changed into her running clothes before heading out along the Shore Parkway Greenway.

The route was familiar to her. She regularly used the waterfront pathway for exercise and was reportedly preparing for the New York City Marathon.

At approximately 7:56 p.m., her father called to ask where she was.

Suarez reportedly told him she was about half a mile away and would arrive shortly.

It was the last known phone conversation her parents had with her before the attack.

When she failed to appear after the expected time, her parents became increasingly concerned. They tried contacting her again, but she did not answer.

Her father eventually went looking for her along the pathway.

What he found was a scene no parent should ever have to face.

HER FATHER FOUND HER BLEEDING NEAR BAY 17TH STREET
Police said Suarez was discovered beneath a tree near Bay 17th Street and the Shore Parkway in Brooklyn’s Bath Beach neighborhood.

She had suffered multiple injuries to her neck.

According to investigators, she had been attacked on the waterfront pathway and managed to move approximately 150 feet before collapsing.

Her father found her in critical condition and sought immediate help.

The scene was extensive, with investigators describing a significant blood trail along the pathway. Police also examined nearby surfaces and the surrounding area for evidence that could help reconstruct the attack.

Suarez was transported to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where she received emergency treatment.

Her condition remained extremely serious. Reports on November 2 said she had been declared brain-dead but was still receiving life support.

The family has faced an agonizing situation while authorities continue trying to determine who attacked her and why.

POLICE BELIEVE THE ATTACK MAY HAVE BEEN RANDOM
NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny described the incident as a possible random attack.

Investigators said there was no apparent indication that Suarez had been robbed. Her personal belongings, including her phone and jewelry, reportedly remained with her.

Police also said they had found no indication of sexual assault.

Those details have led detectives to examine the possibility that she was targeted by someone who happened to encounter her along the pathway.

Kenny said it would be extraordinary if someone had known in advance that Suarez would be at that exact location at that particular time.

However, investigators have not ruled out every possibility, and the motive remains unknown.

The absence of an identified suspect has left police working to establish whether the attacker had any connection to Suarez or whether the encounter was entirely unplanned.

THE PATHWAY HAS A MAJOR SURVEILLANCE PROBLEM
One of the biggest obstacles facing investigators is the lack of surveillance cameras at the exact location of the attack.

The Shore Parkway Greenway is used by joggers, cyclists, walkers and fishermen. However, the section where Suarez was found is relatively isolated, with no nearby residences or businesses providing direct camera coverage.

Chief Kenny acknowledged that the lack of video evidence has made the investigation more challenging.

Police have therefore turned to other sources of information.

Investigators are examining a license-plate reader near the Belt Parkway. According to Kenny, approximately 1,700 vehicles passed through the relevant area during the period being investigated.

Detectives are attempting to identify drivers who may have had dash cameras operating at the time.

Even if a vehicle was not directly involved, its camera could potentially have recorded someone entering or leaving the area.

Police are also checking for footage from nearby businesses and a food cart that may have had a security camera.

The investigation has expanded beyond the immediate crime scene because even a small piece of video could help establish the attacker’s movements.

INVESTIGATORS EXAMINE A POSSIBLE CONNECTION TO FISHERMEN
A separate report published by the New York Post on November 2 said detectives were examining whether a knife used by a fisherman could have been involved in the attack.

The possibility is being considered because the waterfront pathway is frequented by people fishing in the area.

Some fishermen carry bait knives as part of their equipment. Investigators are therefore interested in identifying people who were present near the pathway during the relevant period.

This remains an investigative possibility, not a confirmed finding. Police have not publicly established what type of weapon was used or identified a fisherman as a suspect.

Detectives are also reviewing Suarez’s phone and computer records as they work to understand her movements and determine whether anyone may have been following or monitoring her.

No publicly identified individual has been accused of carrying out the attack.

POLICE DEPLOY DOGS, DRONES AND UNDERWATER SEARCH TEAMS
The NYPD has used multiple investigative resources in the search for evidence.

K-9 units have assisted with searches along the pathway, while drones have been deployed to examine areas that may be difficult to access from the ground.

Scuba teams have also searched nearby waters.

These efforts reflect the challenges of investigating an attack in a location with limited surveillance coverage and a large surrounding area.

Detectives are also interviewing people who regularly use the pathway, including fishermen and others who may have been nearby that evening.

Police are particularly interested in anyone who noticed unusual behavior, heard something out of the ordinary or saw a person moving through the area shortly before or after the attack.

$10,000 REWARD ANNOUNCED AS POLICE APPEAL TO DRIVERS
The NYPD has announced a $10,000 Crime Stoppers reward for information leading to an arrest.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have seen Suarez between 7:56 p.m. and 8:12 p.m. on October 30 to come forward.

The specific area of interest is the eastbound bike path along the Belt Parkway between Bay 8th Street and Bay 17th Street.

Police are also appealing directly to motorists who traveled along the nearby Belt Parkway during that period.

A driver may have recorded something on a dash camera without realizing its importance. Investigators hope that reviewing footage from the approximately 1,700 vehicles identified by the license-plate reader could reveal a useful lead.

Anyone with information can contact the NYPD Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). Tips can also be submitted through the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers website or by contacting @NYPDTips on X.

THE ATTACK HAS RAISED FEARS AMONG BROOKLYN RESIDENTS
News of the attack has unsettled people who regularly use the waterfront pathway.

Residents described the area as a familiar place for exercise and outdoor recreation, but some said they were now reconsidering when and how they use it.

The lack of lighting and surveillance has also become a major concern.

New York State Senator Stephen Chan has called for improved lighting and additional cameras along the pathway, arguing that better visibility and monitoring could help protect people using the area.

Police have increased patrols in the vicinity while the investigation continues.

The attack has also revived memories of the 2016 case involving Karina Vetrano, a 30-year-old jogger who was attacked and killed while running in Queens. Her father discovered her body, and the case eventually led to an arrest and conviction.

Authorities have not said that the two cases are connected. The comparison reflects concerns about the vulnerability of people exercising alone in isolated outdoor areas.

A FAMILY STILL WAITING FOR ANSWERS
Suarez’s colleagues and neighbors have described her as a kind and friendly person.

A customer who knew her through her work at TD Bank remembered her as someone who was always welcoming and smiling.

The bank also released a statement expressing sadness over the incident and offering support to her family and everyone affected.

For her parents, the tragedy began with an ordinary plan to meet their daughter after her run. Her father expected to see her arrive safely, but instead became the person who discovered her critically injured.

Now, investigators are asking the public to help fill the gaps in a case that has so far produced no publicly identified suspect.

Who was near the waterfront pathway that Friday evening? Did a passing driver record something important? Was the attacker someone who happened to encounter Suarez, or was there a connection that investigators have not yet uncovered?

The NYPD is continuing to examine those questions, with a $10,000 reward available for information leading to an arrest.

For Katie Suarez’s family, the most urgent need is for answers about who attacked her and what happened during those final minutes along the Brooklyn waterfront.
