Pregnant Mother of 4 and Her Unborn Baby Killed in Spirit Halloween Shooting — 17-Year-Old Suspect Faces Two Murder Charges

A night of Halloween shopping turned into a nightmare when gunfire erupted inside a Spirit Halloween store in Fairfield, California, killing a pregnant mother of four and injuring six other people. The victim, 31-year-old Constance Hages, was inside the store at Solano Town Center on October 30, 2026, when a gunman allegedly opened fire. Her unborn baby also died in the shooting, leaving her family devastated and four children without their mother. Now, a 17-year-old suspect is facing two murder charges as prosecutors seek to have him tried as an adult.

According to Fairfield police, the shooting happened at approximately 8:30 p.m. Investigators believe the teenager entered the store and spotted another customer with whom he had a prior disagreement. That person is believed to have been the intended target. The suspect allegedly pulled out a firearm and fired multiple rounds, striking seven people in total. Police believe Constance was not the intended victim but was caught in the gunfire while shopping. More than 100 people, including families with children, were reportedly inside the store when the violence erupted. Shoppers and employees ran for safety as officers rushed to the scene.

Constance died at the store, while six other people were wounded. Her family later confirmed that she was pregnant. During a court appearance on November 4, prosecutors disclosed that she was approximately 13 weeks pregnant, a detail that allowed them to pursue a second murder charge involving her unborn child. The surviving victims included people ranging in age from 16 to 43. Several remained hospitalized in the days following the shooting, including a 19-year-old man who was reported to be in critical condition. Others were treated for gunshot wounds and released.

The suspect was arrested on November 2 after investigators reviewed surveillance footage and identified him with help from a school resource officer who recognized him as a former student. Police said he was taken into custody at a home in nearby Suisun City following a SWAT operation. The Solano County District Attorney’s Office subsequently filed two counts of murder, three counts of attempted murder and three counts of assault with a semiautomatic weapon, along with multiple firearm enhancements. Prosecutors also alleged that the teenager had a prior conviction for a violent offense.

The case has drawn additional attention because the teenager was reportedly already on probation following a separate shooting incident in 2025 involving gunfire into a vehicle near Fairfield High School. He had spent several months in juvenile detention before being released, according to police and prosecutors. The district attorney is now asking a judge to transfer the case to adult criminal court, arguing that the seriousness of the alleged crimes, the suspect’s history and concerns about public safety warrant adult prosecution. However, that request has not yet been decided. The teenager remains in juvenile detention, and his arraignment has been postponed until November 13.

For Constance’s loved ones, the legal proceedings cannot undo the loss of a woman they described as deeply loved. Her death has left four children, grieving parents and relatives facing a future without her. A place that had been filled with families choosing costumes and preparing for Halloween has instead become the scene of an unimaginable tragedy. As investigators continue gathering evidence and the court considers how the teenager will be prosecuted, the community is left mourning Constance and her unborn child, while hoping the six injured victims can recover.
