Puppy Stranded on a Splintered Marina Dock: Bodycam Films a Rescue Between Storm Waves

MARINA — September 28, 2024, 14:37. By mid-afternoon the storm had turned the marina into a hazard of floating timber and white water. Docks lay splintered and half-submerged, mooring pilings stood in churning foam, and the boats still tied in the harbor — among them a large white-and-navy yacht — were rolling hard against their lines. Out on the worst of the wreckage, chest-cam footage shows a small brown-and-white puppy crouched alone on a broken board, with the sea breaking through the gaps on every side of her.

The puppy’s long floppy ears are soaked dark, her white muzzle and chest are spattered with spray, and her paws grip a plank that has split lengthwise under her. She does not run as the rescuer works his way toward her across the stable section of the dock. He is dressed for the water: a bright red marine rescue drysuit, black waterproof gloves, black rescue pants and a safety harness hung with steel clips and safety lines. Staying low, he extends both gloved hands toward her, slowly, and waits.

The wait matters. Rain streams off the camera lens, waves explode against the pilings and send sheets of spray across the boards, and the puppy blinks, looks up with wide frightened eyes and shifts her front paws on the wet wood — judging the stranger in red while the dock groans beneath them both.

When she holds her ground, he moves. One gloved hand slides beneath her chest, the other under her belly and hindquarters, and she comes up off the splintered plank in one slow, fully supported lift, water pouring from her fur. Instead of carrying her high, he lowers her straight down into his lap between his knees, cradling her low in both forearms with the broken dock still visible around them. In the closing frames her head rests against his glove, her stare has softened, and the trembling is easing — a puppy off the worst board in the marina, held fast while the storm finishes its work around her.
