Small Plane Explodes Into Massive Fireball Just One Minute After Takeoff, Killing Both Pilots in Mexico
A routine flight ended in tragedy when a small aircraft crashed and erupted into a massive fireball just moments after taking off in central Mexico. Both people aboard were killed, while emergency crews rushed to the scene as flames and thick smoke rose above a busy urban area. The devastating crash happened on Monday morning, November 2, 2026, in Pachuca, the capital of Hidalgo state.

The aircraft, identified as a Cessna 210, had departed from Ingeniero Juan Guillermo Villasana Airport at approximately 9:30 a.m. It was heading toward Cuernavaca International Airport in the neighboring state of Morelos. However, the flight lasted barely a minute. At around 9:31 a.m., the plane went down in the Venta Prieta neighborhood, approximately 500 meters from the end of runway 21, according to Mexico’s Federal Civil Aviation Agency.
The two victims were identified as pilot Moisés González Meléndez and co-pilot José Jaime Jarkin Ramos. Both men died in the crash. The aircraft reportedly belonged to Grupo Aeroespacial Avspace, a company involved in aviation training activities. Authorities confirmed that the impact triggered a fire that required an extensive response from firefighters and emergency personnel.

Witnesses described hearing unusual noises before the aircraft plunged toward the ground. Some reported seeing it flying unusually low and apparently struggling moments before impact. One account suggested that the plane may have struck power lines before crashing. However, these early eyewitness descriptions have not established the technical cause of the accident, and investigators will need to examine the wreckage and other evidence before reaching any conclusions.
The crash occurred close to commercial buildings, residential areas and a military installation, raising fears that people on the ground could also have been caught in the disaster. Firefighters, civil protection teams, police and military personnel responded to extinguish the flames, secure the area and recover the victims. Initial reports indicated that no additional deaths or injuries among people on the ground had been confirmed.
Mexico’s Federal Civil Aviation Agency has opened an administrative investigation, while federal authorities are also examining the circumstances surrounding the crash. Investigators will need to determine what happened during the aircraft’s initial climb and whether a mechanical problem, environmental conditions or another factor contributed to the sudden loss of the plane.
For the families of the two pilots, the tragedy means losing loved ones in a flight that ended almost as soon as it began. As investigators work to establish the cause, the crash serves as a sobering reminder of how quickly an ordinary journey can turn into a devastating emergency.
