Soaked and Alone on the Subway Steps, One Duckling Gets a Gentle Lift to Safety

In the middle of a heavy nighttime downpour, with rainwater pouring down the steps of a flooded subway entrance, a tiny black and yellow duckling was found stranded on a narrow wet step, soaked, trembling, and far too small to fight the current on its own.
Caught on bodycam footage, the rescue unfolds quietly and carefully. A rescuer in a bright blue waterproof jacket crouches on the slippery staircase as water rushes past, then slowly brings both gloved hands toward the frightened bird. There is no rush, no grabbing, only patience, while the duckling shifts its tiny feet and turns its head toward the stranger in front of it.
Then, in one gentle motion, the rescuer cups both hands around the duckling, supporting its whole small body without squeezing, and lifts it clear of the moving water. Its wet feathers shiver, its little legs move, and it chirps softly as it is held safe.
Keeping the duckling cupped securely in both hands, the rescuer rises and turns toward the higher street level landing, away from the flood pouring down toward the station below. Behind them, city lights reflect off the wet asphalt and traffic pushes on through the storm, unaware of the small life that has just been saved on the stairs.
It was a rescue that lasted only seconds, but for one tiny duckling in a very big storm, it changed everything.
