The rain was coming down sideways, lightning splitting the sky over the waterfront skyline, when a rooftop rescue worker spotted the smallest of silhouettes on top of a humming air-conditioning unit: a tiny white kitten, fur soaked through and clinging to the wet metal for dear life.

Bodycam footage from the rescuer’s chest-mounted camera shows the slow, careful approach. Both gloved hands stay low and steady as the kitten blinks nervously through the downpour, letting out a faint meow. Seconds later, the rescuer slides both hands gently beneath the trembling animal — one under the chest, one supporting the hindquarters — and lifts it clear of the slippery surface.

Tucked against the rescuer’s lime-green waterproof jacket, the kitten visibly relaxes, its wet white fur stirring in the wind as the rescuer turns toward the sheltered rooftop access doorway and carries it out of the storm.
