Soaked, Trembling, and Stranded on Broken Crates: A Tiny Calico Kitten Is Lifted From a Flooded Market

In the middle of a tropical downpour, with brown floodwater swallowing an outdoor produce market, a tiny calico kitten was found crouching on a pile of broken wooden crates.
Soaked to the skin, her white, orange and dark brown fur matted with rain and mud, the kitten had nowhere left to go. Around her, vegetables floated past, market stalls sagged under damaged tarps, and crates bumped together in the rising water. She blinked nervously, trembling, as the storm continued to pour down.
Footage from a chest mounted bodycam shows the moment a rescuer in a bright fluorescent yellow waterproof jacket waded through the muddy water toward her. Moving slowly to avoid frightening her further, the rescuer steadied a loose wooden board with one gloved hand while gently reaching toward the kitten with the other.
At first, the frightened kitten stepped back. Then she paused. Carefully, the rescuer supported her chest and lifted her clear of the unstable crates, droplets falling from her soaked fur as her muddy paws left the wet wood.
Held securely against the rescuer’s jacket, the kitten began to calm. As the rescuer turned toward a raised, sheltered section of the market, she looked toward the camera, no longer alone in the storm.
It was a small rescue in a flooded market, but for one tiny calico kitten, it meant everything: dry arms, a steady hold, and a safe way out of the rising water.
