Bodycam footage recorded on August 24, 2024, at 09:18:41 shows a flood rescuer wading through a submerged laundromat to reach a small golden retriever puppy stranded on top of a washing machine, lifting her gently from the slippery steel and settling her onto a folded towel as muddy water swirls around the rows of machines.

The video, filmed entirely from the rescuer’s chest-mounted bodycam, opens on the puppy where she stands alone on the wet metal top of a stainless-steel washer. Her golden fur is soaked through, her long ears hang heavy with water, and her large dark eyes stay fixed on the rescuer. Around her, the laundromat floor has vanished under brown floodwater — laundry baskets drift past, clothing floats on the current, and through the rain-streaked glass storefront, cars can be seen sitting in the flooded street outside.

The rescuer, wearing a turquoise waterproof flood-response jacket, black waterproof gloves, black rescue pants and a safety harness with carabiners and straps, wades closer slowly so as not to frighten her. Both gloved hands rise toward the puppy at her own pace. She blinks, watches him, and takes one cautious step forward with a front paw.

In the closing seconds, his hands slide carefully underneath her chest and belly. He lifts her clear of the slippery surface in one slow, supported motion, water streaming from her drenched coat, and lowers her onto a folded towel on the machine beside her, where she stands safe and dry for the first time — still trembling, but out of the water’s reach, with her rescuer’s hands resting protectively on either side of her.

Animal-welfare experts remind the public not to wade into flooded commercial buildings themselves: floodwater inside shops can hide electrical hazards from plugged-in appliances, sharp debris and sudden deeper channels. Calling local emergency or animal rescue services — and keeping watch from a dry, safe spot until they arrive — gives animals like this puppy the best chance of a calm, careful rescue like the one captured here.
