Stranger Allegedly Walks Into 63-Year-Old Man’s Garage and Launches Brutal Attack Without Saying a Word
A quiet day at home turned into a terrifying ordeal for a 63-year-old Colorado man after a stranger allegedly followed him into his garage and launched a violent, unprovoked attack. The victim suffered severe facial injuries, needed around 30 stitches and staples in his head, and lost a tooth in the beating.

The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Kendan Lubovich, was arrested following the alleged assault in Aurora, Colorado. According to reports citing court documents, he is being held without bail while facing new charges in a case that has raised further concerns because he already had three other felony cases pending.
For the victim, Tom Ruszkowski, the attack reportedly began without warning. He said the man struck him from behind and continued beating him even after he fell to the garage floor.
“The man said nothing,” Ruszkowski recalled, describing the frightening encounter.
Family Members Rushed to Stop the Attack
According to an account reported by 9News and cited in court documents, Ruszkowski had just entered his family’s garage when the alleged attacker approached him from behind and punched him in the back of the head.
The assault reportedly continued as Ruszkowski fell to the ground, leaving him struggling to protect himself.
The situation became even more frightening when family members heard the commotion. Ruszkowski’s wife attempted to intervene, while his grandchildren reportedly screamed as the attack unfolded.
Amanda McClain, the victim’s daughter, said she heard her children shouting that their grandfather was being beaten. She rushed toward the garage and initially grabbed a Swiffer in an attempt to stop the attacker. She then reportedly picked up a baseball bat.
McClain later said she feared the assault could have turned fatal if she had not intervened.
The sudden violence left the family shaken, as a place that should have been safe became the scene of a frightening attack.
Victim Suffered Serious Injuries
Ruszkowski was left with significant injuries to his head and face. According to reports, doctors had to use staples to close a wound on the top of his head and approximately 30 stitches to treat injuries across his face and forehead.
He also reportedly lost a tooth and suffered a shoulder injury.
The physical wounds were a stark reminder of the severity of the alleged beating. His family was left dealing with the aftermath while authorities worked to identify and arrest the person accused of carrying out the assault.
Police arrested Lubovich in Aurora on Sunday afternoon, according to reports. He was subsequently held at the Arapahoe County jail without bail as the new case moved forward.
The allegations have not yet been proven in court, and Lubovich is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
Suspect Already Had Three Pending Felony Cases
The case has attracted additional attention because court records reportedly show that Lubovich was already facing charges in three separate felony cases before his latest arrest.
One case stems from an alleged incident in Weld County in May 2024. The charges reportedly include second-degree assault by strangulation, child abuse, sexual contact without consent and indecent exposure.
A second case relates to an incident in Arapahoe County in June 2025. In that matter, Lubovich faces allegations including assault and attempted assault involving law enforcement officers.
A third case concerns an alleged assault causing serious bodily injury, also reportedly occurring in Arapahoe County in June 2025.
According to the reports, proceedings in all three cases have been delayed while questions about his competency to stand trial are addressed. Competency proceedings determine whether a defendant is currently able to understand the legal process and assist in their own defense.
The existence of those pending cases does not establish guilt in any of them. Each allegation must be addressed through the legal system.
A Criminal History Dating Back Years
Reports also indicate that Lubovich has had previous encounters with the criminal justice system. In 2019, he was sentenced to 18 months in the Colorado Department of Corrections for vehicular eluding, according to reporting by the Daily Camera.
His earlier record reportedly included convictions involving offenses such as trespassing, menacing and assault-related conduct.
The new allegations have renewed questions about the circumstances surrounding the latest incident and the status of his other cases. However, authorities and the courts will need to evaluate the evidence in each matter separately.
Family Left Shaken After Sudden Violence
For Ruszkowski and his family, the immediate concern is recovering from an attack they say came without warning. His injuries required extensive treatment, and relatives who witnessed the incident were left frightened by how quickly the situation escalated.
The case also highlights the importance of seeking help when violence occurs and allowing investigators to establish what happened through evidence and witness accounts.
As the legal process continues, Lubovich remains accused of attacking Ruszkowski. The court will determine the outcome of the new charges, while his three other felony cases remain separate legal matters.
For the 63-year-old victim, the incident has turned an ordinary moment at home into a deeply distressing experience — one that his family says could have ended even more tragically.
