The Search for Missing 4-Year-Old Gus Lamont Intensifies as Police Reexamine Every Clue
Nearly a year after four-year-old Gus Lamont vanished from his family’s remote property in South Australia, investigators are still searching for answers — and police say they are refusing to give up.

Gus disappeared from Oak Park Station near Yunta on September 27, 2025. Despite one of the largest and most intensive missing-person investigations in South Australian history, no trace of the little boy has been found.
Over the course of the investigation, police have carried out 11 separate ground searches covering 30 days, along with extensive aerial operations involving helicopters, drones and aircraft equipped with specialized imaging technology. Investigators have also examined evidence seized from the property, including a vehicle, a motorcycle and electronic devices.
Yet the searches have produced no breakthrough.

Police have previously said they found no evidence suggesting Gus simply wandered away from the property. They have also ruled out the possibility that he was abducted by an unknown person, saying the remote location and extensive investigation did not support that theory. Instead, investigators have focused on the possibility that someone known to Gus may have been involved in his disappearance.
One of Gus’s grandparents has been identified by police as a suspect. Authorities have stressed that Gus’s parents are not suspects in the investigation. As of the latest public police statements, no person has been charged in connection with Gus’s disappearance.
The investigation has also involved forensic examination of items taken from Oak Park Station. Police said those examinations had not produced additional evidence that could advance the search, but detectives continue to review information and pursue other investigative avenues.
Now, with the mystery approaching its one-year mark, authorities have dramatically increased the stakes. On September 23, 2026, South Australia Police announced a reward of up to A$1 million for information leading to the conviction of the person or people responsible for Gus’s disappearance and/or the recovery of his remains.
Gus’s parents, Josh and Jess, have repeatedly pleaded with anyone who knows something to come forward. Their message has remained painfully simple: they want their son brought home and want to know what happened to him.
As investigators continue reviewing evidence, witness information and specialist forensic findings, one question remains at the center of the case:
What happened to Gus Lamont — and does someone out there know the answer?
The investigation remains ongoing.
