WADE WILSON: THE CRIMINAL CASE BEHIND THE “DEADPOOL KILLER”

Wade Steven Wilson became widely known as the “Deadpool Killer” after being convicted of the 2019 murders of Kristine Melton, 35, and Diane Ruiz, 43, in Cape Coral, Florida.

According to prosecutors, Wilson strangled Melton in her home before stealing her car. Later that day, he encountered Ruiz, who was walking along the street, and killed her after getting her into the vehicle. A jury found him guilty of both first-degree murders in June 2024.

In August 2024, a judge sentenced Wilson to death for both killings. His legal team subsequently challenged the death sentences, arguing that Florida’s rules allowing a non-unanimous jury recommendation should not apply to his case. In February 2026, the Florida Supreme Court rejected that challenge, and his attorneys indicated they could pursue further appeals.

The case continues to draw public attention, raising questions about criminal accountability, the death penalty and the legal process that follows a capital conviction.
