Wisconsin Son Accused of Killing His Father, Hiding His Body Under a Tarp and Attempting to Bury Him in the Woods

A routine welfare check at a family home in Wisconsin took a disturbing turn when a 25-year-old man allegedly told deputies searching for his father that he had killed him — and that the older man had been dead for more than an hour. Investigators say the victim’s body was concealed beneath a tarp in the family’s laundry room, while evidence inside the house suggested an effort had been made to clean up after the fatal encounter.

Colton Christopherson has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the death of his 56-year-old father, Allan Christopherson. According to a criminal complaint cited by prosecutors, the killing allegedly occurred on September 26, 2026. Authorities say Colton later attempted to dispose of his father’s body, but his plan was interrupted when he encountered someone at the family’s hunting property.

The case began drawing attention after relatives and acquaintances reportedly became concerned about Colton’s recent behavior and alleged drug use. Deputies went to the family’s residence in Casey, Wisconsin, to check on Allan’s welfare. As they approached the property, they encountered Colton emerging from the garage. Although he initially appeared to greet the officers normally, investigators described his hands as shaking erratically and said he appeared extremely nervous.

When deputies asked where his father was and whether they could speak with him, Colton allegedly lowered his head, looked toward the house and told them his father was dead. Asked what had happened, he reportedly responded, “I killed him.” According to the complaint, he also told officers that his father had been dead for more than an hour and identified a knife as the weapon used. Deputies then handcuffed him and began investigating the scene.

Inside the home, officers allegedly discovered Allan lying face down on a pool-table cover in the laundry room, with a green tarp draped over his body. Investigators also reported finding blood throughout the residence, including bloody footprints in the basement where the pool table was located. Authorities believe Colton had attempted to clean the area, allegedly washing rugs and wiping down the blood-covered floor in an effort to conceal what had happened.

Prosecutors further allege that Colton had tried to take his father’s body to hunting land in Washburn County, where he intended to bury him. According to the complaint, he became frightened after encountering another person at the property and abandoned that attempt. He allegedly drove the body back to the family home, where he planned to wait until dark before trying again. Investigators say the body was brought inside with considerable dragging, adding to the evidence they were examining as they reconstructed the events.

The complaint also describes Colton’s reported explanation for the confrontation. He allegedly told police that he had traveled from Minnesota because he believed his father had hired someone to kill him. According to prosecutors, Colton said his father confirmed that suspicion during their confrontation. The complaint suggests that Colton believed killing his father himself was preferable to allowing someone else to do it. Authorities have not established that the alleged threat against Colton was real, and the claims remain part of the ongoing criminal case.

Beyond the allegations surrounding his death, Allan Christopherson was remembered for his career as a high school teacher and golf coach. He helped lead the Wayzata High School boys’ golf team to state championships in 2010, 2011, 2015 and 2017. A tribute shared by the team described his influence on hundreds of young golfers and expressed sorrow over his death. For the school community and those who knew him, the loss extended far beyond the shocking circumstances described in the criminal complaint.

Colton Christopherson was arrested and charged with first-degree intentional homicide. The allegations paint a troubling picture of a family tragedy followed by an alleged attempt to conceal the crime, but the charges have yet to be resolved in court. As the case proceeds, investigators’ accounts and the evidence collected at the home are expected to play a central role in determining what happened between father and son.
