19-Year-Old Accused of Fatally Shooting His 18-Year-Old Girlfriend While Posing With Gun — Then Calling Her Mother to Confess
A 19-year-old Ohio man is facing criminal charges after allegedly shooting his teenage girlfriend during an incident involving a firearm inside a Cincinnati home. Lindburgh Borden is charged with reckless homicide and tampering with evidence in the death of 18-year-old Emirah Overstreet. According to court records cited by Law&Crime, the shooting happened at approximately 1 a.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at a residence on Beekman Street in Cincinnati’s North Fairmount neighborhood. Several other people were reportedly inside or near the home when the gun went off, leaving Overstreet fatally wounded.

What happened in the moments before the shooting has become a central point of disagreement between investigators and Borden’s defense attorney. The attorney reportedly claimed that Borden was watching another person play with a gun when he attempted to intervene. According to the defense, the firearm’s slide moved during the struggle, causing the weapon to discharge and strike Overstreet without Borden pulling the trigger. The attorney emphasized that Borden immediately contacted the young woman’s mother after the shooting and told her, “I accidentally shot and killed your daughter.” He also reportedly instructed someone else to call 911.
Police, however, have raised questions about that explanation. A Cincinnati police detective reportedly told local CBS affiliate WKRC that Borden and another individual had been posing with the firearm before Borden took hold of it and it discharged. The detective disputed the suggestion that the weapon fired without the trigger being pulled, stating that the firearm would not discharge on its own. Investigators are therefore examining the precise sequence of events and the handling of the gun before the fatal shot.
A friend of Overstreet recalled the chaotic moments immediately after the shooting. The witness reportedly heard people coming outside, shouting that the young woman had been accidentally shot. Borden was also heard repeatedly saying, “I killed your friend; I killed your friend.” The friend explained that she often stayed outside the residence because people there were known to play with firearms indoors. She suspected Borden may have believed the gun was unloaded, although that has not been established as fact.
Emergency responders arrived and attempted to save Overstreet, who was found lying on the floor inside the home. Despite their efforts, the 18-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. Borden reportedly turned himself in to authorities following the shooting and is being held in jail on $200,000 bond. He faces charges of reckless homicide and tampering with evidence. The investigation remains focused on whether the shooting resulted from an accidental discharge, as the defense claims, or from reckless handling of the firearm. As the case moves forward, the court will have to examine the evidence and determine what happened in the moments that ended a young woman’s life.
