10-Year-Old Girl Found Dead in New Jersey Car Trunk as Foster Mother Faces Murder Charges

The search for 10-year-old Malayshia Alford ended in devastating tragedy after investigators discovered her body inside the trunk of a car in Lindenwold, New Jersey. The young girl, who had been living in foster care in West Philadelphia, had been missing for days. Her foster mother, 36-year-old Carprice Williams, was arrested and charged with murder and several other offenses as authorities worked to piece together what happened during the child’s final days.

According to the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, Malayshia was last seen entering her foster home on North Simpson Street on October 22, 2026. Williams reported her missing on October 26, claiming that the child had failed to return home from school. The investigation soon involved Philadelphia police, the FBI and law enforcement agencies in New Jersey. Investigators later obtained surveillance footage showing a person removing a large bag from the residence shortly before 2 a.m. on October 26. Authorities said the footage helped them identify a vehicle and locate a person who provided information leading them to the child’s remains.

On November 4, officers discovered Malayshia’s body inside the trunk of a vehicle parked at an apartment complex in Lindenwold. A medical examination determined that she died from blunt force trauma, and her death was officially classified as a homicide. Prosecutors also said investigators had found indications that the child had suffered physical abuse. The discovery transformed what had begun as a missing-child investigation into a homicide case that deeply shook both the Philadelphia and New Jersey communities.

Williams was subsequently charged with murder, endangering the welfare of a child, criminal use of a communication facility, possession of an instrument of crime, recklessly endangering another person, tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse. She was arraigned on November 6 and ordered held without bail. According to investigators, the person seen removing the bag from the home was not Williams. Authorities have not publicly identified that individual in their initial announcement, and the investigation into the roles of everyone involved remains ongoing.

The case has also raised troubling questions about the circumstances surrounding Malayshia’s care. In a separate report, NBC10 detailed allegations from witnesses who described previous instances of physical abuse. Investigators are examining those accounts alongside surveillance footage, phone records and other evidence. These allegations have added another layer of concern to a case already drawing intense attention to the systems responsible for protecting children in foster care.

For Malayshia’s relatives, friends and the people who joined the search, the outcome was the news they had desperately hoped would never come. Her family has thanked the community for its support while asking for privacy as they grieve. Philadelphia officials have pledged to pursue the case and seek accountability. A 10-year-old child who should have had years of childhood ahead of her is gone, leaving a family and community searching for answers.
