BRITISH DAD FACES SENTENCING AFTER TWO-YEAR-OLD SON FALLS FROM CYPRUS HOTEL WINDOW

A family holiday in Cyprus turned into a devastating tragedy after a British father placed his two-year-old son on a hotel windowsill—unaware that the window was open.

Joshua Foster, 38, has pleaded guilty to causing his son’s death by a rash, reckless or dangerous act after the toddler fell nearly 40 feet from the fourth floor of the King Evelthon Hotel in Paphos on July 12.

The court heard that Foster had been carrying and playing with his son while the family waited for a lift. The child reportedly noticed the hotel’s waterpark through a large window, and Foster placed him on the windowsill so he could see the view.

According to his lawyer, Foster believed there was protective glass over the window and did not realize it was open. Moments later, the toddler fell. Foster reportedly watched in horror before immediately rushing downstairs and attempting to revive his son. The child was taken to hospital but could not be saved.

The child’s maternal grandfather was also at the hotel and witnessed the fall. The court heard that the grandfather had been with Foster and the boy shortly before the tragedy, making the incident even more devastating for the family.

Foster’s lawyer told the court that the father had been enjoying what had been a happy family vacation just moments earlier. He acknowledged that placing the child at that height was a serious mistake, but argued that Foster had no opportunity to react once the toddler fell.

The court also heard that Foster had consumed alcohol that evening. A later analysis estimated his blood alcohol concentration at the time of the incident at 124mg, although prosecutors indicated that his alcohol consumption was not central to the case.

Foster is due to be sentenced on October 16. His lawyer told the court that the tragedy has devastated the entire family and that the father will have to live with what happened for the rest of his life.
