Indiana Father Sentenced to Prison After Ordering His Young Son to Attack Another Child on a School Bus

An Indiana father is heading to prison after encouraging his young son to attack another child on a school bus — then joining the confrontation himself. The disturbing incident, which was captured on the bus’s onboard cameras, ended with multiple children caught in a violent altercation involving two adults who believed their son was being bullied.

Donquarious Ridley, 28, pleaded guilty on October 12, 2026, to contributing to the delinquency of a minor and two counts of battery against a person younger than 14. He was sentenced to two years in prison, followed by two years of probation. His partner, Raven Barner, 26, who is the boy’s stepmother, had previously pleaded guilty to two counts of battery involving children under 14.

The confrontation took place on October 31, 2025, in Greenwood, Indiana. According to a probable cause affidavit cited by Law&Crime, Ridley and Barner boarded a school bus outside their apartment complex after Ridley’s son had been picked up. The bus driver had not given the couple permission to enter. Once inside, the adults confronted children they believed had been bullying the boy.

Investigators said Barner began arguing with two children and threatened one of them. She allegedly told the child she would get her stepson to attack him and encouraged the boy to start a fight. When the bus driver stood up and attempted to place herself between Barner and the children, Barner struck two of them, with one reportedly being hit unintentionally.

The situation then escalated further. According to the affidavit, footage showed Ridley telling his son to fight the child Barner had struck. The boy reportedly followed his father’s instruction and hit the other child. Ridley then allegedly threw the child to the ground, allowing his son to strike him repeatedly. In a separate moment, Ridley shoved another child back into a bus seat with enough force that the child hit the side of the vehicle.

The incident resulted in criminal charges against both adults. Barner was sentenced on May 21 to one year in jail, followed by one year of probation. She was also ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation. Ridley’s sentence includes two years behind bars and two years of probation. He must also complete an anger management course, undergo mental health and substance abuse evaluations, and participate in any required treatment.

The case has drawn attention to the consequences of adults responding to suspected bullying with violence rather than seeking help from school officials. While parents naturally want to protect their children, the incident on the Indiana school bus shows how a confrontation intended to defend one child can put several others at risk. Instead of resolving the alleged bullying, the adults’ actions led to criminal convictions and prison time.
