FORMER ARMY NATIONAL GUARDSMAN SENTENCED TO 25 YEARS IN PRISON FOR KILLING FELLOW SOLDIER HE FOUND WITH HIS EX-GIRLFRIEND

A former U.S. Army National Guardsman has been sentenced to 25 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to the fatal shooting of another soldier at a military installation in Georgia. Natravien Reshawn Landry, 25, was sentenced on October 20, 2026, for killing Army Sgt. Andre S. Stewart Jr. at Fort Gordon, formerly known as Fort Eisenhower, in Augusta. The deadly encounter happened on December 14, 2024, when Landry went to the home of his former girlfriend, who was also the mother of his child, and found Stewart there.

According to court documents and witness statements, Landry had reported for military drill duty earlier that morning and was on a break when he drove to the apartment. He reportedly noticed a vehicle parked outside and asked who it belonged to before entering the residence. Investigators said Landry then went toward a bedroom, where he found Stewart, who was in a relationship with the woman at the time. The woman later told authorities that Landry had been jealous of Stewart.

The situation quickly turned violent. Witnesses told investigators that Landry confronted Stewart inside the bedroom and struck him several times with a handgun before firing a shot. Stewart was wounded and stumbled out of the bedroom, falling down a staircase. Emergency responders transported him to a hospital, but he later died from his injuries. Two children were reportedly inside the residence during the incident, including Stewart’s young son, making the tragedy even more distressing for the family.

After the shooting, Landry fled the apartment and left the military installation. Authorities tracked him down roughly three hours later during a traffic stop on Interstate 85, south of Atlanta. Investigators said he threw a handgun out of the vehicle window as deputies approached. The weapon was recovered and later identified as the firearm used in the killing. During questioning, Landry admitted to shooting Stewart, according to federal authorities.

Landry pleaded guilty in June 2026 to second-degree murder and using a firearm during a crime of violence. The federal court sentenced him to 300 months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release. Because there is no parole in the federal prison system, he is expected to serve his prison sentence under federal rules. Prosecutors said the sentence cannot undo the loss suffered by Stewart’s family but holds Landry accountable for the killing.

Stewart’s death left behind grieving relatives and a young son who was present at the apartment that morning. His sister previously described him as a young man who was building his life and valued his family. The case underscores how a personal conflict can have devastating consequences, extending far beyond the people directly involved. For Stewart’s loved ones, the sentence brings a legal conclusion to a tragedy that permanently changed their lives.
