A Halloween night ride turned tragic in Southern California after a car allegedly driven by an intoxicated motorist struck a group of approximately 30 cyclists, leaving two people dead and another seriously injured.

The collision occurred around 10:40 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the intersection of Kingsley Street and Tudor Avenue in Montclair, California, according to police.

Witnesses told authorities that the cyclists were participating in a Halloween-themed group ride when a vehicle struck several members of the group. One cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, while another later died at a hospital. A third victim suffered serious injuries but was reported to be in stable condition. Another cyclist sustained a minor head injury.

The driver, identified by police as 38-year-old Montclair resident Valentin Alberto Rodriguez, allegedly fled the scene after the crash. Investigators, with help from witnesses, later located him at his residence near the collision site. He was arrested around 2:40 a.m. on Sunday, October 25.

Rodriguez was booked into the West Valley Detention Center on suspicion of several offenses, including driving under the influence causing injury or death, felony hit-and-run, and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

The victims’ identities had not been publicly released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are asking anyone with information about the crash to come forward.

The tragedy has left the community grieving and renewed concerns about road safety, particularly for cyclists sharing the road with motor vehicles at night.

Two lives were lost during what was supposed to be a festive Halloween outing. As investigators work to establish exactly what happened, families are left facing the devastating consequences of a night that ended in tragedy.
