Teen, 16, Found Guilty of Murdering 14-Year-Old Boy After Arranged Fight Following Snapchat Feud
A 16-year-old boy has been found guilty of murdering 14-year-old Christopher McBurnie after a planned confrontation that ended in a fatal knife attack on the Isle of Man. The teenagers had exchanged insults and death threats on Snapchat before arranging to meet, despite reportedly having never met in person before the dispute.

Christopher was killed in Ramsey on May 29, 2025, after traveling from Castletown to confront the defendant at his home. A four-week trial at Douglas Courthouse heard how the argument on social media escalated into threats of violence, with the defendant reportedly challenging Christopher to come to his address.
Prosecutors told the court that the defendant came outside carrying a kitchen knife concealed in his pocket. Although he was punched twice in the head during the confrontation, the prosecution argued that what followed was a deliberate and frenzied attack rather than an act of self-defense.
Christopher was stabbed three times and collapsed in the coastal town at around 3:40 p.m. Emergency services rushed to help, but the teenager was pronounced dead approximately 40 minutes later, despite paramedics’ efforts to save him.
During the trial, jurors heard that the defendant had allegedly threatened to kill Christopher on 11 separate occasions before the fatal encounter. His legal team argued that he had acted in self-defense and raised concerns about his cognitive abilities. However, the jury rejected that defense and found him guilty of murder.
The defendant cannot be named for legal reasons because of his age. He is due to be sentenced on January 12. Following the verdict, Detective Chief Inspector Neil Craig said the thoughts of investigators remained with Christopher’s family and everyone who loved him, emphasizing that the case involved a young life lost and relatives who must live with the consequences every day.
After Christopher’s death, a fundraising campaign was launched to help cover his funeral expenses, raising thousands of pounds. The organizer described him as a much-loved boy who brought joy to his family. The case has shocked the Isle of Man, where authorities described a killing of this nature as extremely rare.
