Boy, 14, Denies Murdering Schoolgirl Found Stabbed to Death in Woodland After Disappearing
A 14-year-old boy has denied murdering schoolgirl Lilly Jones, whose body was discovered in woodland in South Wales two days after she was reported missing. The case has devastated the teenager’s family and shocked the local community, as the legal process moves toward a trial later this year.

The defendant appeared at Newport Crown Court on October 27, where he pleaded not guilty to murder. He cannot be named for legal reasons because of his age. The court has scheduled a four-week trial, due to begin on November 23.
Lilly, also 14, was reported missing on June 20. Her body was discovered two days later in woodland near Blaina Bowls Club in Blaina, South Wales. A post-mortem examination found that she died from multiple stab wounds to her neck and trunk.
Her disappearance prompted concern among family members and the wider community, with police launching inquiries to establish what had happened to her. The discovery of her body turned the search into a murder investigation, and the 14-year-old defendant was subsequently charged.
Lilly’s death has left her loved ones struggling to come to terms with an unimaginable loss. Her family previously described her as a kind, caring and confident girl who loved music and was never afraid to be herself. They said she stood up for others and accepted people for who they were, regardless of their differences.

Brynmawr Foundation School, where Lilly studied, created a memorial area in her memory. The school remembered her for her warmth, kindness and bubbly personality. Her family said the loss had left an enormous hole in their lives and had affected the wider community as well.
An inquest into Lilly’s death has been adjourned while the criminal proceedings continue. The upcoming trial is expected to examine the evidence surrounding her death. The defendant has denied the murder charge, and the case remains before the courts.
