A Frightened Goat, A Collapsing Vineyard Slope, And A Rescue Just In Time

On the afternoon of September 29, 2024, a young goat found itself in one of the most dangerous places imaginable: a narrow, muddy ledge on a vineyard hillside that was slowly giving way above a raging flood.

Storm battered vines hung broken around it. Below, muddy water tore through the valley, carrying debris past collapsed earth and shattered vine posts. The goat, soaked and covered in mud, stood trembling near the edge, with almost nowhere left to move.

A rescuer in a blue storm response jacket, black gloves and climbing gear made his way carefully along the unstable slope. Chest camera footage shows him crouching low to keep his balance, then slowly reaching out a hand toward the frightened animal.

The goat shifted nervously and looked directly at the camera, but it stayed in place. That moment of trust mattered. The rescuer steadied the animal, keeping one hand on it for support as mud shifted beneath his boots and the flood roared below.

Step by step, he guided the goat backward, away from the crumbling edge and toward a firmer section of the slope. By the end of the footage, the little goat looks calmer and more stable, standing on safer ground with the rescuer still close beside it.

It was a quiet rescue, with no dramatic rush, just patience, balance and a gentle hand at exactly the right moment. For the goat stranded above the flood, that was more than enough.
