Dad-of-Three Shot After Trying to Stop Road Rage Argument Dies in Hospital — Murder Investigation Launched

A 32-year-old father of three has died after being shot in a shocking incident that began when he tried to intervene in an argument between two motorists in south London. Terry Dearsley had been fighting for his life in hospital for nearly two weeks after the shooting in Woolwich. Despite medical efforts, he died on November 4, leaving his family devastated. Police have now upgraded the investigation to murder.

The incident happened at approximately 8:09 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, on Frances Street, near the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich. According to reports, Terry was driving home from work when he noticed two motorists involved in a heated road rage confrontation. Rather than simply driving past, the father reportedly stopped his van and attempted to calm the situation. But what began as an effort to help allegedly turned into a nightmare.

After intervening, Terry reportedly returned to his vehicle to continue his journey home. At that moment, his van was allegedly riddled with bullets and he was struck by gunfire. Emergency responders arrived and found him suffering from a gunshot wound inside a parked car. Officers immediately provided first aid until ambulance crews and London’s Air Ambulance arrived. He was rushed to an East London hospital with life-threatening injuries. Earlier reports indicated that doctors believed his chances of survival were extremely low.

The Metropolitan Police later identified the victim as Terry Dearsley and confirmed that he died on Wednesday, November 4. His family have been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers. His death has transformed the case into a murder investigation, as detectives continue working to establish exactly what happened during the confrontation and who was responsible.

A 48-year-old man, Paul Rosser-Davies, from Greenwich, was charged on November 1 with attempted murder and possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life. He appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on November 2 and was remanded in custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for November 30 at the Old Bailey. The charges were brought before Terry’s death, and authorities have since launched a murder investigation. The defendant has not been convicted, and the allegations must be tested in court.

Terry’s death is a heartbreaking reminder of how quickly an everyday disagreement on the road can escalate into devastating violence. He was reportedly on his way home from work when he stopped to help strangers resolve an argument. Instead, the father of three never made it home. His family is now left to grieve a life cut short, while detectives continue their investigation into the fatal shooting.
