Girl, 9, Cuts Her Tongue After Biting Into Halloween Chocolate Hiding a Metal Pin as Police Find Nails and Needles in Children’s Treats

Halloween turned into a frightening experience for families across Germany after children discovered dangerous metal objects hidden inside sweets collected during trick-or-treating. A nine-year-old girl suffered a cut to her tongue after biting into a chocolate bar containing a metal pin at least five centimeters long. Police are now investigating a series of disturbing discoveries involving needles, nails, screws and staples concealed inside children’s treats.

The incident involving the injured girl happened in Bremervörde, northern Germany. She had been enjoying Halloween festivities when she bit into a chocolate bar and encountered a sharp metal pin hidden inside. The object injured her tongue, raising serious concerns about what could have happened if she had swallowed it. In another incident in Munich, a nine-year-old boy discovered a metal nail inside a gummy sweet strip. Fortunately, he managed to spit it out without suffering injuries.

Other children also encountered potentially dangerous surprises. On the Baltic Sea island of Fehmarn, an 11-year-old girl discovered a sewing needle approximately three centimeters long hidden inside a chocolate bar. In the town of Umpferstedt, two children aged 11 and 12 found metal staples concealed in chewing gum. Police also received reports from families in Essen after parents noticed suspicious puncture holes in candy wrappers and discovered needles hidden inside chocolate and bags of gummy sweets.

The alarming reports have spread across several German states, including Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein, North Rhine-Westphalia and Thuringia. Investigators believe some of the sharp objects may have been deliberately inserted into the sweets to hurt children. Several criminal investigations have been opened over suspected attempted aggravated assault. However, police have not identified any suspects or established whether the incidents are connected. One major challenge is determining which houses distributed the contaminated treats, as children visited numerous locations during Halloween.

The disturbing discoveries were not limited to Germany. In Ireland, two mothers in County Donegal reported finding metal pins and a needle inside sweets their children had collected. One mother discovered small pins in four different treats after checking them with a refrigerator magnet. Another family’s son spotted a needle embedded inside a chocolate bar just before eating it. Police in Ireland have confirmed that enquiries are ongoing. Separate reports involving needles and pins concealed in Halloween chocolates have also prompted investigations in Canada.

Authorities are urging parents to carefully inspect every sweet their children collected before allowing them to eat anything. Families should look for small puncture holes, damaged wrappers, unusual marks or anything that appears suspicious. Police also recommend keeping any suspicious treats and their packaging rather than throwing them away, so investigators can examine potential evidence. For many parents, Halloween is supposed to be a night of costumes, laughter and harmless fun. Instead, these frightening discoveries have left families questioning how something as simple as collecting candy could expose children to such serious danger.
