Man Who Ambushed Random Amazon Driver, Dragged Her Into a Ditch and Shot Her in the Head Learns His Fate
A routine Amazon delivery turned into a horrifying nightmare when a 23-year-old woman was ambushed by a stranger, shot in the head and left in a roadside ditch. Now, nearly two years after the shocking attack, the Missouri man responsible has learned his fate. Thomas Coy, 65, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for the killing of Jasmine Taylor, a young delivery driver who was simply doing her job when her life was taken in a senseless act of violence.

The attack happened on February 5, 2025, along Lawrence County Road 2152 in Missouri, approximately 40 miles west of Springfield. Taylor was driving an Amazon delivery vehicle when it suddenly crashed into a fence near Coy’s property. Investigators later reviewed video footage provided by Amazon, which showed the van approaching a driveway with Taylor slumped over in the driver’s seat. At first, the incident appeared to be a serious road accident. However, the discovery of a gunshot wound at the hospital revealed a far more disturbing story.
According to investigators, Coy had spotted Taylor driving along the road before returning to his home to retrieve a weapon. He allegedly waited for her to pass again before shooting her with a pellet rifle. After the vehicle crashed, he pulled the injured woman out and dragged her along the roadside, leaving her in a ditch while she was still breathing. Taylor was transported to Mercy Hospital in Joplin, where medical staff later discovered a projectile lodged in her head. Despite medical efforts, she died on February 9, four days after the shooting.
During questioning, Coy admitted shooting Taylor and removing her from the vehicle. Authorities said the two had never met before the attack. Investigators also examined a possible motive connected to complaints about delivery vehicles speeding along the rural road. Neighbors reportedly said Coy had frequently expressed frustration about drivers traveling too fast through the area. However, officials did not publicly confirm that this was the reason behind the shooting.
The case moved closer to its conclusion in September 2026, when Coy pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and armed criminal action. On November 2, a judge sentenced him to 30 years for second-degree murder and an additional 10 years for armed criminal action. The sentences were ordered to run consecutively, meaning Coy will serve a total of 40 years behind bars. The sentence brings a significant development in a case that shocked the local community and raised serious concerns about the safety of delivery workers.
For Jasmine Taylor’s family, no prison sentence can bring back the young woman whose life was cut short while she was making deliveries. She was only 23 years old, with a future that should have been filled with opportunities and ordinary moments with the people she loved. Her death serves as a heartbreaking reminder of the dangers faced by workers who travel unfamiliar roads every day. A job that should have ended with her safely returning home instead became a tragedy that devastated an entire family.
