Perched Above Rushing Stormwater: Bodycam Captures Rescuer Lifting a Soaked Calico Kitten From a Mountain Highway Drainpipe

Rain hammered the asphalt, stormwater roared through the concrete channels, and traffic crawled past with headlights on — but inside a roadside drainage pipe on a mountain highway, the loudest sound was a faint, frightened meow.
Chest-mounted bodycam footage dated October 19, 2026, at 2:26 p.m. shows a rescue worker in a bright red waterproof jacket, black protective gloves and a climbing harness with orange carabiners working at the mouth of a concrete drainage pipe. Just inside, crouched on a narrow ledge above fast-moving rainwater, was a tiny wet calico kitten — white, orange and dark brown fur plastered to its body, large blue-green eyes wide, pink nose trembling.
The rescuer moved with deliberate slowness. One gloved hand braced against the wet concrete while the other extended toward the kitten and held still, letting her sniff the glove without a sudden movement. The kitten blinked nervously and let out the faintest meow — then stayed.
Then both hands moved in: one supporting her chest, the other her body. The kitten made a small hesitant shift, and gave in. Lifted clear of the ledge, she dangled dripping for a heartbeat — and in one unguarded moment, with rain falling around them, she opened her mouth and meowed straight into the camera.
By the final seconds the rescuer had withdrawn from the pipe and turned toward the safer roadside, the kitten tucked securely against the red jacket, water dripping from her fur, her wide eyes finally looking up with something calmer in them.
