Tech Entrepreneur Adam Robinson and His Young Family Wiped Out in Seconds as Private Jet Crashes in Florida
A family trip that was supposed to be the beginning of a joyful getaway ended in an unimaginable tragedy when a private jet crashed and exploded into a massive fireball in South Florida. Among the nine people killed were technology entrepreneur Adam Robinson, 45, his wife Helen Sharp, their two young children and several close friends. The aircraft was traveling from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas whe

n disaster struck on Sunday, November 1, 2026.
The family was reportedly heading to the Bahamas for a birthday celebration. Their children, Emma, 4, and Charlie, 2, were described by relatives as the center of their parents’ lives. The family nanny, Ana María Ramírez Cetina, was also aboard, along with family friends Rachael Reed and Charmi Fehr. Both pilots were killed as well. In a heartbreaking statement, relatives remembered Adam and Helen as devoted parents whose warmth and generosity touched everyone around them. They also paid tribute to the friends who had shared so much of their lives and to the nanny who cared for the children with love and dedication.
The Learjet 60 crashed in the Greenacres area of Palm Beach County, near West Palm Beach, at approximately 12:50 p.m. The aircraft struck the ground with tremendous force, creating a crater and erupting into flames near a residential neighborhood. Dramatic footage captured the jet plunging toward the ground before the explosion. Emergency crews rushed to the scene, while nearby residents were evacuated as authorities secured the area. Although all nine people aboard died, only one person on the ground was reported injured.
Adam Robinson was known in the technology industry as a successful entrepreneur and advocate for building businesses without relying on outside investors. He co-founded Robly, an email marketing company, and later founded Retention.com. He also helped build other technology businesses, including RB2B and MoltSets. Before entering the startup world, Robinson worked in finance and played basketball at Rice University. Friends remembered him as an energetic mentor who cared deeply about his family and the entrepreneurial community. In interviews, he had spoken about how much he valued being able to spend mornings and evenings with his children rather than constantly traveling for work.

Investigators are now working to determine what caused the aircraft to lose control. According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the crew reported ice accumulating on the plane and significant turbulence as the aircraft encountered a developing storm. The co-pilot described rapidly changing conditions before the jet entered a catastrophic descent, reaching reported rates of more than 20,000 feet per minute. Investigators have also recovered pieces of the aircraft’s left elevator, a component of the tail that helps control the plane’s pitch, as far as 3.8 miles from the crash site. This indicates that the aircraft was breaking apart before impact, although officials have not established whether the damage caused the loss of control or resulted from the forces during the descent.
For the families and friends left behind, the loss is devastating beyond words. Two young children, their parents, a devoted caregiver and friends who shared their journey are gone in a single moment. The NTSB expects to release a preliminary report in approximately a month, while determining the probable cause may take more than a year. Until then, investigators will continue examining the wreckage, flight data and weather conditions in an effort to understand how a journey that began as a family celebration ended in tragedy.
