Texas Man Sentenced to 55 Years for Killing Romantic Rival After Saying, “I’m Going to Shoot You”

A Texas man has been sentenced to 55 years in prison for fatally shooting Taylor Hart following a dispute over a romantic relationship. Joseph Dean Williamson, 28, was found guilty of murder and felony evading arrest in connection with the December 2023 killing.

According to prosecutors, Williamson had been involved in a sexual relationship with Hart’s girlfriend, despite being married himself. The situation led to growing tensions between the two men, who reportedly exchanged text messages and phone calls discussing a fistfight to settle their differences.

On December 27, 2023, Hart encountered Williamson near Avenue E and Fifth Street in Brownwood, Texas. Prosecutors said Hart stopped to confront him and kicked his vehicle. A witness testified that Williamson then pulled out a gun and declared, “I’m not going to fight you; I’m going to shoot you,” before firing at Hart.

Hart was shot in the chest and taken to a hospital in Brownwood, where he later died. After the shooting, Williamson fled the scene and was eventually apprehended following a high-speed police pursuit that ended at his grandmother’s home.

During the trial, Williamson claimed he had acted in self-defense. However, the jury found him guilty of murder and evading arrest. He has now been ordered to serve 55 years in prison for the killing, bringing a major development in a case that began with a personal dispute and ended in a fatal confrontation.

A conflict that reportedly began over a relationship ended with a life lost and decades behind bars. The case highlights the devastating consequences when personal disputes escalate into violence.
